So I decided to take the mini to get some bits before Hay, and on the way, the engine cut out while driving.

I jiggled some wires, checked some connections, verified the fuel pump was working and nothing. Engine would crank but wouldn't fire.

After about 15 minutes or so, it started up, no problems. Then it died about 2 minutes later. Another 15 minutes and it started again, only to die while I was putting the grill back on. Another 15 minutes or so, started up, and drove for 5 minutes or so before it died. Another wait and it started again and I made it home.

I noticed that when it dies, my wipers don't work, and neither do my indicators. Based on this, I'm assuming some kind of earthing issue perhaps?

Help!

Thanks,
Richard

Could be a dirty fuse, if someone has put the ignition circuit on the wrong side of it. It's supposed to be unfused. But it did happen, on my car once.

I pulled fuses out while it was running and it didn't cut out. And the indicators kept flashing.

I doubt my electrical system is particularly well implemented.

Could be as simple as a loose battery terminal - one that has not been done up properly.

I doubt the starter would crank in that case.

It's a connection which affects the dizzy, wipers and blinkers, but not the starter.

That is a possibility, I'll check it. Cheers.

Could be clogged fuel filter or inefficient fuel pump and its running dry , waiting for 15 min allows it to refill and run for a short time before running dry again. Electrical situation may be linked somehow or just a coincidence.

Dirty earth on the solenoide. The mounting plate is the earth. Either it will be mounted to the body or engine check for any sign of corrosion

It was indeed the ignition switch. Fixed in less than 5 minutes.

Now the temperature gauge isn't working... sigh.
