Could anybody advise on the removal of the original cooper S extractor and replacement of an original extractor while the engine is in place?
Is it possible? or would the engine have to be removed?
Cheers

Original extractors!

Surely they have rusted away by now.

I haven't had the original extractors for many years but remember they were difficult to remove/replace without moving the engine a long way off its mounts or even lifting the engine half way out to clear the tail section and twist it down and around the bottom of the subframe..
I know that isn't helping your question very much. Sorry.
Those original extractors looked very 'basic' but unless replaced with LCB extractors, the engine lost power. The 3 into 1 copies were never as good despite looking very similar.

Its also been a while for me ..but I'm pretty sure I found the answer to be .. no.

Even if the subframe is not in the car you can't get the tail of the extractor down the slot between engine and frame..

Cheers, Ian

Pop the drivers side top and bottom ball joints, remove the driver side uni. If your looking down the back of the engine rotate the extractors clockwise as you remove them.

Thank you to all for the reply's.
Greg I'll make a start based on your information so many thanks. I managed to find a set of original spark plug leads so all good on that front.
Cheers
