I'm doing a hydro to dry suspension conversion and have two perfectly good hydro rear radius arms. Rather than going to the expense of sourcing decent second hand or reconditioned complete dry rear trailing arms, I was thinking about getting the hydro stub axle pins pressed out and replaced with new dry ones that Mini Spares sell

Has anyone done a hydro to dry conversion this way? What capacity press do you need to press them out/in?

I might be wrong but I thought I heard the angle of the knuckle is different from hydro to dry as well? Hilos may fix the difference if there is any!

I've pressed one at home and it was fairly easy. I have a 10 ton press (I think) but it was still fairly easy.

If the pressure seems too high try gently heating the arm a bit and from memory their is a retainer circlip on the shock side, obviously remove that first (if it exists???)

You can hammer them out from bearing side (or press them out if you want them reusable) no need to remove the circlip. To refit just heat up the radius arm end and drop the new stub in the hole. Simples!

I cut the pin off the end of the hydro arm, then drill and tap the stub to 3/8" UNF. Use a grade 8 bolt instead of nuts. Saves a lot of hassle and it's easier to get the shocks off.

Sounds like it might be a relatively straightforward changeover. I have Matt's hi lo s so any differences between the position of the knuckles should be manageable (I vaguely recall reading something about this though it may have been the differences in the cone seats in the hydro vs dry subframes). The pins are handed on their threads I believe.

True.. you will need hiLos (or struts something like 10-15mm longer than standard) or the rear guards will sit on the tyres...
