Hi all, slowly getting more jobs done on Blue. I’m doing the interior myself and either making the panels myself or buying untrimmed panels when I can find them and trimming them. I've managed to find or make all the panels except for the ones in the doors. The filet panels are not expensive so I’ll prob just buy some new ones and retrim those but…..

Does anyone know who sells bare door cards for a sliding window door? Failing that is anyone able to send me the dimensions of the cards? Don’t really want to buy a new trimmed door card to strip it to trim it myself and can’t think of the last time I saw a second hand door card for sale.

Probably get some from the UK (Newton Commercial are good to do business with). But they're only stiff, flat cardboard..... Measure the hole and cut to size... the only "detail" is bait cut out to allow fitting behind the door latch.

The tricky bit is getting the padding right to match the original pattern.

Early cars just had a vinyl backed with thin horsehair glued to the door panel.

Cheers, Ian

Thanks Ian,

I’ve sent an email to NC but on their website they only have trimmed stuff so who knows but shipping may be a bit hideous. Tried a few other places in Aus as well and came up blank. Just surprised that no one has them so if needed I’ll make them myself, it’s just a bit of a faff.
I’m not trimming to original (combo red vinyl and Golf GTI Tartan) so not too fussed matching the original padding just some sort of period design.

My stock 850 door trims are just glued on, there’s no door card. Perhaps that’s why you can’t find any locally?

The parts books I have for the Mk 1's in all variants, including my own, show door liners as original fitment.

Thanks Dave, tried the Aussie door card people, super helpful but they don’t have the design for the sliding window cars.

Tim I’ve seen a few people have been in the same boat.

I think I’ll have a crack at making my own and see how I go. What’s the worst that can happen!!!

I think it depends oin the age of the car. I have (what I think to be) a 63 which has stick on trim. I had a later one that used panels like my UK cars.

It would be no trouble to make you own. Just measure top to bottom and one side to the other leaving off a centimetre or so at each end. There’s a small rectangular cut out at the top back corner to allow for the door latch.

The ends are held in place by the filets and the ends of the door pockets and the bottom is pushed in by the door pocket liner.

Don’t use too stiff a material because you have to bend the top in to slide it under the top rail.

Cheers, Ian

My 61 850 had stick on trim. And the English tube frame seats. More elbow room with no door cards... ;-)

Will do thanks Stewart, they’ve been pretty responsive in the past.

Ian I’ll prob end up doing that if I can’t find a template. Problem is, as always, I am extremely time poor so trying to find a way to make progress with the limited time I have in the garage.

Dr Mini, Tim mentioned the same thing. Blue is a Feb ‘63 base version (heater? Never heard of it) and on the inside of the 1 original door it has glue remnants on it so maybe the same.

Pretty sure no 850 sold here with sliding windows had a door card. 997 Cooper didn't either but their stick on vinyl had a pattern? Been 60 years since my mate had one.

My 1964 850 has hessian backed vinyl trim which was glued to the door skins. No other vinyl trim on the car was hessian backed, so I can only assume that’s how it came.

If Doug sees this I wonder if there is a spec sheet for edit: HYA0632 / 0633 which were the locally made liners specified in my parts book. As always I’m interested to learn more

My reference book, Factory-Original Mini Mk 1 and Mk2 (UK written and published), deals with this subject in some detail in Chapter 2 (The early Mk 1 Saloons 1959-1962), and there is no mention of glued on door linings. Chapter 3 (1962-1967) shows the door linings that feature in my 1965 example.

Maybe mixed up pages??? In the descriptions, #568 and #569 are described as "dash trims" .... which doesn't match the labels in the diagram??

Cheers, Ian
