Naah she will stay as is... cept the badging... I seriously will have to change that. It's just not right to call her a deluxe when she's not.

I've always wanted a K :wink:

K's had an alternator, Horn button on the end of the blinker switch, 1100 motor, 4 syncro box.
Deluxe's had a generator, horn button in the middle of the wheel and the blinker light on the end of the blinker switch, 998 motor, no syncro on first.

Hey doc, dont know if you're 100% right about those tail-lights..

I think it may have been one of those BMC on-the-go changes, my 68 Lux had the two piece Lucas Aust. items..

Could be, it did happen around 68-69 though. My 68S had the 3 screw ones. :wink:

Yeh my 68 deluxe has the two screw Aussie ones, and from the dates on starter and wiper motor (7/68) it is from later in the year.

Congrats on scoring a K! They are just deluxe mark 11 of course, so they are honorary deluxe's... we'll still let you in the club :lol: :lol:

cheers
matt

Adding to the equation, my LUX 's body number is YMA2S2/ wiper motor is 6/68, wipers park on passenger side, original tail lights that came with car are two screw type and on the dealers hand book sold as " Morris Mini Deluxe Saloon " 17 sept 1968 in Melbourne. Is it probable that " YG2S1 " was built before " YMA2S2 ". Another piece of the puzzle!

no, sorry, no plot thickening puzzle at all :D

YMA2S2 is simply an Australian Morris Mini Deluxe Saloon with 998cc, just like YMA2S1 is an Australian Morris 850.

YG2S1 simply denotes a Mini K - the MA in the deluxe which i believe stands for Morris and then denotes engine capacity is replaced by the G, which may simply denote engine capacity, as by 1969 Morris was about to become a distant memory. Perhaps someone else can shed some light on the 'G' designation.

Chong - Welcome son, you have long been wandering in the unprivileged ownership of deluxe-ville. Welcome to K-land, where everything is fun and simple. Happy kangarooing :D

First prefix letter = Origin of Manufacture

Second prefix letter = Name
A= Austin
G= MG
H= Healey
M= Morris
W= Wolseley
K= Morris Cooper

Third prefix letter = (model) Cubic Capacity
L = up to 799cc
A = 800cc to 999cc
G = 1000cc to 1399cc
H = 1400cc to 1999cc
B = 2000cc to 2999cc
D = 3000cc up

4th prefix letter = Body type
N = 2 Seater Tourer
T = 4 Seater Tourer
W = Station Wagon
S = 4 Door Saloon
2S = 2 Door Saloon
X = Taxi

5th prefix letter = Series of Model. 2,3,etc. used to record a major change

So the YMA2S2 number means...
Y = Australia
M = Morris
A = 800cc to 999cc (in this case a 998cc)
2S = 2 Door Saloon (must be a mini!)
2 = Deluxe

Now the YG2S1
Y = Australia
G = 1000cc to 1399cc (in this case a 1098cc)
2S = 2 Door Saloon
1 = K

OK so I've had 2x MiniMatics, a 69 and a 70. :lol:

Both have bodies with YA2S5 prefix....??
WTF?
And NO, none of the boards with this Mini body info seem to list it. :wink:

I dunno about this - I'm not going to disagree about the body number being a K prefix, but I have heard of pre-release K's being badged as Deluxes, and MK2 S's being badged as MK1 S's - remember, there wasn't anything that special about Minis 10 years after their first release, the factory was just shoving them out the door..... the marketing folks decided what badge to put on them. Hands up if you've heard of a Cooper S MK 1.5, maybe we've got a Morris Mini Deluxe MK1.5 on our hands... .

let's just suppose that it's got the original bootlid on, it would have patched up holes where the 1100 badge was, where the DELUXE is now - the pins weren't in the same place...
