Just a quick question for the people in the know.Do all Mk1 Cooper S cars (1968) have the spare wheel retaining bracket in the boot ? I was reading an English book the other day trying to vertify my car genuine,it had many other things, but not the bracket.

Hi,
Australian early minis were equipped with the superfluous spare wheel anchor spotted welded to the boot floor. Although this was fitted, no local Mini sedans were equipped with the screw in retainer. Apparently for the S, the anchor still appeared in the 2900 bodies, but disappeared completely sometime after, at a unspecified point.

Early S had the bracket you said in the boot but I do not have exact body numbers when it was deleted.
Thanks

Many thanks. :D
Did the Mk11's have the retaining bracket? My car number is 5302 and it has some parts fitted with the dates of 1968 and 1969, so I assume it was one of the last produced.I was told many parts were thrown together for the last Mk1's and early Mk11's, to meet the demand.
Cheers

my 62 850 has a buldge in the boot floor where you could screw a wheel retaining bolt into but it has no thread in it just solid

On the subject of Cooper S verification, isn't there 2 bolts behind the back seat on near the right hand side tank?? these bolts are from factory and prove that the body is an S??? I read this somewhere in one of my books, can't remember where...

"spare wheel anchor spotted welded to the boot floor"

I have that bracket on my 1966/7 Deluxe.

The Cooper "S" had 4 bolts that hold the right hand tank strap.
