Hi all,
I'm refitting the subframe in my car along with the suspension and have come across an issue with seating the cone in place.
Picture shows that it has an abnormality with the seating ring.
Is this still able to be used/fixed? Help?

The other 2 good bayonets there should centre and hold the bag ok.

The rubber cone sits on the inside of the ring on the subframe, correct?
Any ideas on how this been caused? I assume the cones that come out were original and never been apart before now.

I dare say the old cones needed some persuasion to come off. Mine needed to be cut off when I removed them to be replaced with Hilo’s.

Sorry an edit...when I replaced them I smeared copper grease on the ring so they didn’t get stuck again...the thinnest of smears only and not gobs of it.

Some time in the past, has the cone been able to jump out of its groove, move slightly off centre then the weight of the car has come back down to press the ring of the cone into the locating collar on the subframe?

I don't have any experience with dry suspension, but would think that so long as the new cone can still seat into the subframe collar to the correct depth it would be OK, as the suspension is always under some compression. From your photo, the 2 dings look to be moving outwards and should not interfere with seating the cone properly.

that's what it looks like to me too... I wouldn't be worried about it, just make sure the new cones going in are seated properly

Thanks everyone, I would assume what Bill B pointed out with jumping out of the groove would be the case. Being an 850 it hasn't had a hard life in the 20 years I've had it. I doubt it's ever been taken apart going by the pancake donuts that came out.

New hi-lo's and cones went it ok, along with refurbed top and bottom arms.
Now just have to center the new steering rack and adjust the ends.
