In my experience bullet style mirrors, whilst looking very period, are very impractical because they have limited adjustment. In order to get decent rear vision you have to mount the flat base of the mirror at an angle on the door where there is a curve in the panel work. This has the effect of denting the door as you tighten the mirror.

Finally found a pic of the style I'm after - anyone know who sells these? I want the round mirror as I feel it works better with my stock 850, but also it looks like the mounting plate will cover the two mounting holes?

My '68 deluxe has the same mirror, albeit mounted slightly different - maybe an OE supplier/dealer accessory back in the day?

They are a much later mirror, mid to late 90s was when I first saw them. They are a cheapish import.

Great old video, and I can’t believe NSW still has yearly inspections. Must be one of the last to do so?

I just googled "classic style wing mirror" and this was the first result https://www.ebay.com.au/i/303084438027

Thanks Simon. I'm used to playing with Aussie cars so don't search for terms like wings or fenders

I have a fun memory of having to pull a u-turn after my passenger side Tex mirror came off on a particularly high spirited, high G corner. Must've been knocked and adjusted one too many times.

Hey hewey, I bought a mirror that style not too long ago (6 months), my local Autobarn sells/sold them for $15, the quality is not too bad, certainly not what you would use on a show car, but for a daily, they look alright.

I got a pair from the eBay link. Quite acceptable, maybe not for a show, but plenty good enough for me.
