After contacting the eBay supplier I used, it turns out he has supplied me LG2 (leaded) bronze, not phosphor bronze.
I will have to get some more material and make another bush! :(

This illustrates the hazard of buying stuff online.
Oils ain't oils and bronzes ain't bronzes. I need PB1 not LG2.

I have just found a local supplier, will go there on Monday.

What about using c932 bronze alloy.

That's a leaded bronze similar to LG2.
I've used LG2 leaded bronze for offset rocker bushes but phosphor bronze is better for highly loaded bushes. And higher speeds.
Edit:
C932 alloy does have some phosphorus and not too much lead so probably is OK. Among its uses is diesel wrist (gudgeon) pin bushes so it must be pretty tough.

I got some 1" dia PB1 phosphor bronze bar from Brass and Copper in Seven Hills.
I'll get another bush turned up.

Edit:
I'm also drilling a hole between 1st and 2nd gears on the cluster, and adding grooves to the small thrust washer, to improve oil flow.

Edit 2:
New bush finished, I've given its bore 1-1/2 thou clearance to promote oil flow.

Is this where the extra oil feed holes should go and should they go all the way through to the other side.

Just needs 1 hole between 1st and 2nd gear, not right through both sides. And radius the corner.
Also add a couple of radial grooves to the small thrust washer.
Said GR.

Edit:
I'll put it into my son's 1300 + remote box here that's going into his 71 Clubby before Xmas I hope!
Saves pulling mine out again.

Reclaimed S cluster gear and phosphor bronze bush fitted.
Bore of small end is now 22mm not 21.
Edit:
I kept the 2 big needle bearings in the other end, the gear has no wear there. It's the small diameter bearing in the 1st gear end that usually suffers, along with the shaft there.

I had an odd noise in my gearbox at the end of the day at Hay last year, turns out the small idler gear bearing had collapsed

Part of the bearing cage was still there, but all of the rollers were gone. The shaft might have been rubbing on the gear itself, but not much

After a cleanup, a new bearing slides in there, but the surface is quite rough - definitely not the same nicely ground finish as the other end

Use as-is?
Repair as described in this thread?
Buy another and put this aside for "fix it one day"?

edit: the 1st gear teeth have taken a little bit of damage, they were grinding on the selector ridge of reverse (I think)

I drilled a 6mm hole where the RH mark is. I only bushed the small end.
I only drilled one side, Graham Russell suggested later drill right through would be better.

Anyhow it's been on the road now for 2 years, running fine. No bronze in the oil when drained last. But it's on club plates so only done 1000 miles or so.

Would you run a bushed gear under your 1360 or a 1406 stroker motorkhana car?

I measured the bore of a (good) K laygear and the damaged one - the bore looks to be 0.825" (33/40") - the calipers slip cleanly into the K gear, and need a bit of a wiggle to get into the damaged one. Maybe the damage can be ground out, will a couple of thou oversize hurt a roller bearing?

I'd grind it out parallel and fit a bush.
No the overstressed needle bearing won't like the oversized hole, mine collapsed on the way to Rylstone a few years ago.
Yes I would run a bush in my 1360, or the 1412 if I still had that.
Edit
I reckon it'll stop the shaft case hardening getting chewed up as usually happens..

I also filed a V groove across the small bronze thrust washer to promote oil circulation.
