Folks,

Forgive me if this has been posted before! For those who would prefer parts made somewhere other than China I found K&N oil filters at Supercheap. Made in the USA. As you might expect, 50% more expensive than Ryco.

Good buys can be had on the likes of eBay.

I recently bought 4 Cooper (Chinese) oil filters on eBay. 2 leaked at the crimp.
Also had 2 Ryco Z9s do the same.
I've gone back to Wix (made in Poland).
And Wix USA for the Z9s.

I haven't used Ryco oil filters since I found metal shavings inside the filter. I also use Wix now (51348). Purchased a few last year and are made in USA.

Did you investigates why there were metal shavings in the filter? and did you thank Ryco for showing you that you had an engine problem :?:

New out of the box and before you had fitted it?

Ryco filter was new out of the box. Went to lube rubber seal and there was a small metal filing sitting on rubber seal. Though mmmmmmm. Turned filter upside down and tapped it in the palm of my hand, couldn't believe what came out of the middle of the filter. Would say about 20 or so metal shavings. Not good.

Took it back to supercheap, got a refund. They said they would follow it up but never heard back.

I wonder if some people think they can clean the K&N oil filter too...

Funny you should mention cleaning K&N filters. I have had mine for a long time now and have never bothered to clean it. My reason being that Vizard tested a K&N air filter deeply covered in dust after one of those Baja desert races and it still flowed well compared to paper filters!
