Post subject: | Couple of questions |
Hello just have a couple of questions. I tried a search but couldn't really find m uch and the pictures I could were a bit blurry. So what should a Mk 1 wiper motor look like and also what colour is the switch panel on a Mk 1? Thanks in advance |

The switch panel was Silver birch - same as the rims. The Wiper motor was either a DR3 or DR3A. Here is a late 1967 Cooper S Wiper Motor. Attachment: 1968 Cooper S brochure late 1967 engine.jpg

So by the looks of it the wiper motor top (where the date etc is) is zinc plated and the bottom is it the same or zinc plated gold? |

The colour difference might be from different materials between the body and lid. I am not sure as so many years have gone by. carter wrote: ... or zinc plated gold? Pretty sure the cover plates were silver until the negative earth version of the Australian 12AUW round-bodied motor appeared. The plate was then plated "gold" (actually yellow chromate) to differentiate externally from the earlier positive earth version, according to the engineering drawing. I would suggest that the square body of the motor was finished in grey hammertone. Can send a photo of my mini's wiper motor tomorrow if interested. |

Bill B just noticed that rubber weather seal across the top of the channel. Is that original? Is it a good idea to fit one? |

It’s funny I was looking through the 850 parts book just the other day and noticed they had one listed. It’s part # 14A9010 which sticks onto the rear edge of the engine bay, which looks like an “L” profile. The clip on style like Bill’s looks good too |

clip wrote: Bill B just noticed that rubber weather seal across the top of the channel. Is that original? Is it a good idea to fit one? I am fairly sure it is not original. Most minis used that flat strip of foam rubber glued to the bottom of the gutter that always seemed to breed rust under it. It is similar to the door opening and rear quarter window seals using pinchweld bonded to an extrusion. Attachment: Bonnet seal.jpg I think it came from Mini King when he was at Milperra. I have another one on the mini K too. Always had goodies bins with throw-out items, cheap, for the impulse buyers. Whether it's a good idea is up to you. Getting rid of the original foam strip is a good idea, though! I just thought it made the engine bay look a bit classy and it might just dampen the bonnet a bit. |

Ah... those ads were soft porn for mini people - all those bare gearbox photos. And where would you get a new 1275 head for $80 these days? Someone else ran similar ads laid out like this for years too. Was it Fabres in Marrickville? |
