If anyone has a pair of the AYA6007 spacers, I am chasing a set? Alternatively, I could probably make my own if anyone has the shop drawing?

One more question - when using the rack spacers did they also use longer u-bolts to accommodate the additional length?

I have swapped in the AYA rack today (old rack was an early Australian) and the u bolts seemed to be a very tight fit around the alloy parts on the rack. It was 1-2mm bigger in diameter, which then caused the u bolts to splay open when they were pushed over the rack

This is something I also wondered about, after all, we're taking 1/4 difference in housing height. However, there is no evidence that I can find in parts books or service literature that would suggest longer U bolts were supplied. The official instruction is "When fitting the reworked or later type rack to the toe
board, spacers Part Number AYA 6007 must be fitted under the 'U' bolts between the rack housing and the toe board, to ensure the correct positioning of the pinion to the steering column. Spacers are only applicable to the Mini Range of vehicles.". I suppose if someone could sort through a box of U bolts and see if there are any differences that would be helpful. THe same part number 2A6208 appears in parts books from 850 to Leyland Mini.

The other thought I had was if the later ones had slightly shorter nylock nuts as these ones are relatively tall

I checked the nuts, MYH319 on all models. The height of the nut from bottom to top extremeties is 0.278 to 0.318" and 0.190 thread length. Zinc passivate finish, high tensile material.

My 850 book says LNZ205, is this the same size?

Yes you could be on to something here. LNZ205 has an overall height of 0.407" and thread length 0.304" which is a much longer (taller) nut than MYH319. Well spotted. I'll update my article.

I've checked again all the parts books, and (no surprise), there are plenty of inconsistencies. it would appear that there was a transition from the early longer nuts LNZ205 to the shorter nuts MYH319 in time, but this doesn't match up with the listings and recommendations about steering racks AYA6001 and AYA6001A. Possibly because no one told the parts book people that thinner nuts would be needed for use with the spacers. PUB1012 appears to be particularly bad in mixing up the steering rack parts.

Dumb question , Hoping I don't need to put them in the van
How do I know if they should be fitted to 77 Leyland ?

Some of the later Aussie racks had an extended casting that needed a spacer so it wouldn't hit the body where the pinion sticks through. There's some dimensions on page 1 & 2 of the thread to check

In my photo above, if I didn't use the spacer the foam seal would have been completely squashed
