Thanks everyone for your advice and input. Decision is to tap inlet manifold and fit vacuum outlet. Already have a VH44 unit lying around so we will go ahead and fit it and see if this is an improvement. Pretty simple to remove if not up to scratch.

I fitted my VH44j for the same reason. Had one here spare. Less pedal effort is nicer on the road at my advancing years.

Downside is it's a PITA when you want to pull the motor out. So mine lives under the dash like the UK works cars.
It was a Matic so the heater is under the bonnet.
2 screws and that's out.

Would you put it in the middle or off to one side? It probably doesn't make much difference but they seem to normally be off to one side.

My 74 S has had a booster fitted but it was connected to the CCV port, I am going to drill and tap a spare manifold. I normally wouldn't worry about the booster but since it is fitted I will see if it works.

Booster is really the wrong description, it should be called a brake pedal feel helper.

Many people don't understand that and think it improves the maximum braking power. We don't need that argument again. I am only doing it for the comfort of the driver, it's one of the things he'd prefer in order to drive it for me.

They are nicer with a booster, I didn't run one for a long time, but then the kids started competing with me and were having trouble stopping it in finish garages - the booster just made it a more comfortable thing to use.

Go with tapping your existing manifold, but look into a HS4, like having a booster with disks, a bit more breathing through the intake makes the car more comfortable

Thanks for all of the great input. Been sidetracked with some rust repairs to our S, but once completed will fit the booster (pedal feel helper) and report the outcome
