Hi All We have fitted disc brakes to our 70 van and they work well, but now we want to fit a booster. The inlet manifold is cast iron and does not have a vacuum point. Did anyone ever produce a single SU manifold with a vacuum point? Bazzz |

The Minispares alloy heated manifold has the booster take off. you do not need to connect the heater pipes. However I ran with a booster for a while and it makes no difference to disc brakes, in fact the pedal feels better without the booster and the brakes work fine. |

Which size SU? I assume HS2 1-1/4 If it was HS4 1-1/2 it would be easy. |

Could you drill and tap 5/8 UNF and install part number 12H1405 ? Some of the latter manifolds came with tapped hole ie metro |

Hi All Thanks for advice. We are using a HS2 1-1/4 on the van at present. What is the solution if we did have a HS2 1-1/2 installed 68+86auto? Drilling and taping a 5/8 UNF thread is an option, but I am not sure about the cast iron manifold holding up. |

It appears there is at least one factory cast manifold HS2 with a booster port - 12A1097. No problem drilling and tapping a cast iron hs2 manifold. Doesn't need to be 5/8 unf though, 1/4 bsp is plenty big enough. Fit a brass barb fitting. |

Because you have a HS2 1-1/4 you could probably just drill and tap your manifold. |

I wouldnt bother putting a booster on it, buy a really good set of competiton pads and it will stop fine as a rule we dont run boosters on competition cars, neither on rally cars or race cars, it's only the heat range that we change on a rally car run something that works from a lower temperature, on a race car run a higher heat range.....there is much better pedal feel without a booster. personally I run P agid pads but something cheaper like EBC will do the job fine |

I run ebc Greenstuffs on my Mini and my son's, I have a booster now on mine but ran 30 years without one. Stop fine without. I tried blackstuffs but got brake fade on kurrajong hill and Mt Keira. Ymmv... |

Not sure why but over on the UK mini forum they reckon ebc pads are hopeless. I have been using them and find them OK, I wonder if enviromental conditions heat humidity etc come into play? |

They do work better as they warm up, but are fine here even the 1st application cold. Ii think it's the cold crap weather over there. Also, since 1984? or sooner UK Minis came with 12" wheels, 8.4 discs not our 7.5 S ones. Maybe different pedal feel. |

The weather can be crap over there, thats one of the reasons I emigrated. The 12 inch wheels may be one thing but they are talk8ng about 7.5 pads mostly. |
