Bit of a weird one.
When in neutral it makes no noise but when you depress the clutch there is a rumble type noise when the first pressure is taken up. If that makes sense? When you push the clutch past this point the noise stops.
I put a screwdriver to my ear and listened to clutch housing thinking it may have been idler gears but the noise is not from there.
Put the screw diver on clutch throw out stop nuts and push clutch in till noise starts and you can hear it on nuts. Can also feel it through the clutch pedal but only when making the noise.
It all points to the release bearing but I thought if it was making it when you just make pressure it would make noise all the way through the action.
I know it’s an easy fix if it is the release bearing but would like to narrow it down to that before I waste time pulling in out.
Unsure if I have explained it right or not but any help would be appreciated.

I do not know if there are other causes, but I had a grinding noise when the clutch pedal was down, it went when engaged and it was the release bearing.

Could it be that with light pressure, the bearing is beginning to turn and the noise is from each roller clacking into each other - maybe some wear in the rollers or down on lubrication. When full load is applied, all clearance disappears and there is no noise?

There are 2 distinct types of bearing here, one is a standard looking bearing and the other is more enclosed type. I had all sorts of noises with the more standard looking one, and replaced it with the more enclosed one and the noise issues were fixed. It was a timken bearing that was the better one.
