The Mk 1 Cooper S lower suspension arms had what I feel were a special unit with a greater pin-to-ball joint offset. I have seen a few early cars and they are the same casting throughout the period [2A4324S]. However I have seen a "stamped" number on the Cooper S units - suggesting a greater neg camber offset - 21A 1881 [N/S] & 21A 1879 [O/S]. Be interested in others thoughts or collations.

I have not had early Deluxes, only Mini K & late Matic which were shod with the Aus casting AYG4094 / AYG4095 units.

My speculation is also hopefully resonably justified by the lower wishbone arm rubber being an adjacent part # 21A1882. There was a changeover point and it did occur in the Deluxe as well - just curious if the lower arm itself was a common roll-out?

Frank, The changeover in the Deluxe took place in July 1967, according to John Sneddon Pg 78 (in the First Edition). So too the Cooper S (Pg 139)

The lower arms changed from a straight rubber bush to a tapered bush at that time, which I’m guessing is the reason for the change in casting and part number

Early was
Arms: 2A4318 & 2A4324
Bush: 2A4294

Later was
Arms: 21A1879 & 21A1881
Bush: 21A1882

Thank you David & Timmy. Understand the early non-tapered arm units which utilised the plain rubber insert without steel inserts, but was wondering if the 21A1879 & 1881 were carried over into the Deluxes as there are different documented part #'s from the Deluxe YMA2S2 27396-on.

The suspension lower arms have all the same geometry except for the change of straight bush to tapered bush. The AYA numbers you see are Australian made equivalents to the UK manufactured arms. For those referring to Pages 78 and 139 of the above mentioned book, I won't say much other than that I've added another four errors to the log so I wouldn't rely on that information too much.
