The 3 synchro gearbox mainshaft/third motion shaft has a 14 mm nose that runs on a needle roller bearing in the first motion shaft. These have a habit of wearing through the case hardening after a time and new replacement mainshafts 22G392 are no longer available (although the 14mm 4 speed synchro box mainshafts are).

I seem to recall that at one time in the early ‘70s we used to get a 3 synchro shaft with a worn nose hard chromed which enabled them to be re-used but I haven’t heard of anyone who has done this nowadays. I note that Hardchrome Services P/L in Adelaide is still operating having been established in 1972, and I’m pretty sure that is where we used to get them done. Has anyone heard of this or had recent any experience with this process and whether it is a viable option.

Can't run needle rollers on a hardchromed shaft, they'll peel the chrome off. I used to fit a 14mm bearing sleeve after grinding the shaft down. I don't do these now but I think minisport SA does exchange.
Edit 4 synchro shafts, ask them about 3 synchro.
