i have tried adjusting the handbrake on my 10" wheel moke but no matter how tight i adjust the cable i can still rotate the tyres by hand.
The car has new rear shoes (installed the correct orientation), new drums, new wheel cylinders, new handbrake levers & pins and the previous owner has installed new handbrake cables.
I have checked the route of the cables and greased up the guides and ensured the quadrants are installed correctly.
Is there something i seem to be missing? There is a possibility the handbrake cables are for another mini / moke but i am unsure.

Thanks.

Have you adjusted the drums correctly first? Were the drums cleaned to remove the oil they apply to keep away corrosion? I guess another option is the shoes need to be bedded into the drums as everything is new?

Yeah I have cleaned the drums with brake cleaner.
I couldn’t even get the handbrake to hold with the old drums.
I might try another pair of rear shoes

Do the rear brakes work when hydraulically used?

Is the cable under tension?

How old are the shoes?

Not only does the shoe friction material wear but so does the steel ends of the shoes. If them and the adjusters are worn it'll never work correctly. When you adjust the rear brakes do you feel the steps on the cone?

It is worth double checking the shoes are installed correctly as it is not always obvious and is different left to right due to rotation. Once you have the shoes and springs installed correctly and the handbrake levers in the correct place (the manual shows correct installation L & R) then make sure you can lock the brakes with the adjuster. Once all is good here then you can look to see that the levers are pushing the shoes out as you operate the handbrake. when you are certain all is good and you are still running out of adjustment at the handbrake then it is likely you have the wrong cables.

check the return springs on the handbrake cables , you may be getting spring crush , also check that the quadrant is not hitting the swingarm before getting tension on the brake levers , have had this happen to me with brand new cables , spring to long and locating block for the quadrant to far up the cable ,

Are the cables the correct moke ones? AYK5786 is the part number for Mini Moke 10" hand brake cables. Anything else will be incorrect length.

I ended up having to buy a new handbrake cables and found the ones that the previous owner installed were incorrect.
New cables fitted and it works fine.
It seems like the ferrule Is previous one.
