1275 head gasket what are people using now a friend has had one fail after a couple of months and not many klms done unfortunately I don't know which one the used

Retighten when hot and again after 1000km or so.

I would suggest finding out why it failed once apart. He may have further issues.

If the timing is out it can cause head gsket issues, and the new chinese distributors are prone to wild timing variations.

unfortunately reputable doesn't mean much. There's one here who can't check dwell at all or even do timing correctly but rebuilds mini engines for people.

Since the block and head was supposedly checked then the gasket itself is unlikely to be at fault.
