the place in teh UK that does the kits is wood and pickett. they have some stupidly nice stuff there

here's teh central locking kit

http://www.woodandpickett.com/product_t ... &ass_id=45

for 79GBP that seems a little steep.

i got my central kit for $30 from jaycar
http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.a ... &SUBCATID=

and another $130 for the remote kit / dual circuit immobiliser
http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.a ... &SUBCATID=

even if you have to make up some brackets/linkages to adapt it to the late model UK doors, it'd still come in cheaper than 80GBP and you'd have full remote entry with security !!

by the way, sorry about no pics yet. didnt get a chance to take any before night time.. will do tomorrow

ok here's pics as promised (as links so the thread is dialup friendly)

ok this is the door, no sign of central locking, and everything works as stock
http://members.optusnet.com.au/petejastrzebski/door.jpg

here's the door with no trim, basically you can see the linkage from the central lockign solenoid running in parallel with the original locking link. tape is for rigidity
http://members.optusnet.com.au/petejast ... notrim.jpg

i just wrapped the wire around the original arm. solid enough for this job
http://members.optusnet.com.au/petejast ... _joint.jpg

the motor is mounted where you can see teh 2 little screws
http://members.optusnet.com.au/petejast ... cation.jpg

and the link wire pops through the door here
http://members.optusnet.com.au/petejast ... e_hole.jpg

hope this is useful to some of you :)

That is farken beautiful mate. Extremely helpful.
All my locks have been fixed up while the new engine was being put in, but the drivers door lock just doesnt lock up that much.
I think i will have a go to see if i can get it right. (Those two little bolts)

I haven't sorted out how to lock the doors when the battery is flat yet... I want some sort of manual button/lever on the inside of both doors...

Or more importantly to unlock them if the car's on fire.

Go to one of the UK forums (like miniclassic) they have copies of the Wood & Picket C.Locking kit manual going around. Post and ask for one and you can use their manual as a guide of sorts.

I was gonna put cental locking in my round nose (much harder to do than in a clubby) I was gonna use additional locks, instead of the normal ones, without a key outlet (so as not to change the doors) - ie unlock by remote only, and two wires in the boot which can be contacted with a mobile phone battery as a backup when the batery is flat.

Decided not to at the end because of the major ammount of screwing with the original doors involved.

cheapest would have to be DIY but since im technically challenged
ive just gotten this quote for

We can provide a keyless entry system for your car for $160.00 assuming you already have a functioning central locking system. This includes 2 remotes and flashing indicators.

If central locking isn’t installed we can provide central locking for $100.00 excuding any extra factory parts, they may cost extra, maxumin cost for parts will be $50.00.

You may need to install a motor in the drivers door as may only comes with a switch to control the other doors from factory, you can test this be locking the passenger door and if all the doors lock, you will not need a motor.

A lmmobiliser system for your car for $240.00 this includes 2 remotes, 2 point immobiliser, all black wiring, auto arming immobiliser and flashing indicators, a flashing LED dash light and is insurance company approved.

I had central locking on my Mk III before we pulled it apart for the make over.

I had it done by John Fitzmaurice at Northern Mini Parts. I know it was just one of those cheap kits from Gary's Car Radio because I bought it and took it to them.

Also had an immobiliser/alarm fitted as well.

Can't tell you how much because I can't remember, but might be worth checking them.

Not all doors of the UK/Sth African minis will be the same as it depends what type of door intrusion bars were fitted when the mini was Aust. Complied. All businesses that comply to ADR do it a different way. It is usually easier in Sydney complied cars as they didn't seem to put as big an intrusion bar in as Northern used to. The Sth African mini probably won't have any intrusion bars like mine as they were private imports and not as many changes were needed when they were imported.
