hi there

i am just wanting to see people's countrymans/traveller? please put in a story about it aswell!

i know awdmoke, steve and mikey, flashback and iwannamini have them and i have seen their pics but feel free to put them up again for others enjoyment :)

does anyone know how many people have them on Ausmini? or how many were imported to Aus?

i know that 75,500 Mk1's were made and 22,500 Mk2's were made. Flashback knows of 14 i believe and he is making up a database or something for them so contact him if you have one and havent done so already!

i love these cars but sadly do not own one

cheers

Here Mikey and mine
This mini sat on a lawn in Canberra (Lyons) for over ten years. We first saw this mini several years ago and the guy wanted $14000- as it was unusual. A year later it wasn't for sale but was being used by a transmission place as a run around.

A year after that is he sold it $9000- . Two years later it was just sitting in the back yard of the transmission place not going. We arranged a conversation with the owner who wanted to know what would happen to it if we bought it. Sold $3000 to be restored to original.

Later discovered it was early as it had the tank on the side not underneath. Travellers and countrymen with wood were launched June 1960 realeased September 1960 and this is November 1960.

I read an article in Miniworld which said the earliest surviving traveller in UK is December 1960. Waiting for heritage certificate to see if its the oldest they have on record. There is another very early traveller in Wagga but I don't know its date.

Its rummoured the British High Comission brought in 10 for diplomats wifes to do there shopping around Canberra in. I rang and emailed the High Comission to ask, everyone said they wouldn't reply, 15 minutes later I got a reply as the publicity person learnt to drive in a MKII traveller. Unfortunately the High Comission dosen't keep any records of cars imported by them going back that far. but the heritage certificate might have some of those details.

Here's some pics of mine in as-found condition. I'm ashamed to say it hasn't progressed a whole lot further. My wife reckons it will be my retirement project.

It's rough, but rust free and it was free. :)

 Hi AWDMOKE,
Just had a look at your van and to my suprise I realised that I sprayed it in its colours,
Its a pity I couldn't get it for myself but with 6 vans and an 850 I have no room left to play with....
Is and will be a really nice van when completely restored

Yeah Jason, John told me you painted it :)

You'll have to give me some details of the paint colour so I can touch it up after I scratch it up fitting the motor.

Scenery looks very familiar, some's buying from the guy with the Barossa stash. :)

I considered buying that Countryman a few years ago. It looked like a solid original car.
