Unfortunately the High Comission dosen't keep any records of cars imported by them going back that far. but the heritage certificate might have some of those details.

one of those consulate estates is in regular use in Wodonga - the owner has had it passed down to him through a few relatives, and is doing a kinda 'rolling restoration' - it always has parts missing off it. To add to that rumor, it's said they (the consulate cars) all came with cooper disks - the one in Wodonga has them

Just on a side note, the counrtyman that Mat Van 74 just got (very nice BTW), has aussie sec wind up windows. I thought counntyman and traveller were never actually released here officially so would never have had them fitted at the factory.

Also it has an Austin badge, and they were never released here. Could be an interesting story to that one?

Cheers
matt

Hey

The doors are MK3 doors- so when the car was made these doors werent even invented  so you are 100% correct. Austin and Morris MK1 and Mk2's all had sliding windows

I was thinking about this and the only thing sswannabe and i could think of was that the sliding windows werent up to Australian Safety standards and hence were changed when it was imported here. all travellers and Coutnrymans were imported none were made here. they were all made at the longbridge or cowley plants in the UK

This is a very easy replacment so i didnt mind too much.

When i mentioned this to the owner of they car she got very angry and abusive

If anyonelse has any ideas on the doors write them here or PM me :)

cheers

Matt alot of 850s ended up with wind up windows to help with air circulation. It would have been done by an owner.

Its an easy fix, are you keeping original?

www.newtoncomm.co.uk could be handy if you are and somerford mini

cheers

I have a 64 Austin Countryman I have had it for 7 years . I bought it from a lady in armidale nsw who was too sick to drive it any more . It was imported by an english professor at Armidale uni. The original engine and brakes were not with the car when I got it and so over a period of time it has progressed to a cooper s setup including a recent engine and gearbox rebuild by Ron Williams of Tenterfield. When I figure out how to put up photos I will do it . Oh by the way it is Tartan Red ( red is faster)

PS It was my dad's birthday last week, & I suprised him by giving him the Austin
(on condition that I can still drive it on cruises etc).
He's in his 70's & was so happy he almost cried.
Said it brought back a lot of memories...
