I know most of you guys talk about LCB extractors but what do you think of pacemakers, any bad reports or comments? And what type of mufflers do you guys have on your exhausts, I was looking at a sports system and it had a muffler called redback or something, was told that it was a baffle or something and there where 2 types a quieter one and a LOUD one probably too loud.

LCB isn't a brand, it's a type. Long Centre Branch. So if these extractors are the same design as an LCB, then you'll have no problem.

1.75" is optimal for a Mini zorst, remember that.

Yep, I was going to get 1.75". So with LCB does that have 3 pipes (the 2 in the center are 1) , what's the other type you can get. Is it the same as mandrel bent(or tuned length, so all pipes are the same length). I'm not sure what the LCB type is and why you want it.

Here's a Maniflow LCB like I have on my 1310:

Perry used to make similar here, I have one on my 1293. Not sure if still made though.

Karcraft sell the Maniflow one shown in the link.

You can get a Maniflow 3-into-1 (3 equal length pipes) but they only work properly with race cams having 300* duration... :wink:

The previous owner of my mine wrote somewhere that it has a 30/70 cam, would he mean 731? I've got what appears to be an original 3into1 is this a good setup for a mild 1275 with such cam? any point in changing to LCB?

(Sorry for hijaking the thread and the forum for the last few days).

Classic `30/70' means the cam timing is: 30/70-70/30:
ie. inlet opens 30*BTDC, closes 70*ABDC, exhaust opens 70*BBDC, closes 30*ATDC.

That's a bit wilder than the BMC 731 cam, which is 24/64-59/29.

LCB is better for a 1275, with both these cams- the original 3 into 1 is OK with mild cams.

So is it too wild for fast road use? I know its only 5deg more duration than a 731 but I am lacking in the low end and there the behaviour is a bit erratic?

It's 270* duration, between a 266 and 276 Kent. Should be OK in a 1098 or a 1275. You will lose a little down low, but it will go better up high than a 731 does. :wink:

Tip- if you run a 731 in a 1275, they go better with 1.5 rockers...

I was asking my local mini place about LCB's but they told me they are for high revving race mini's and a 3 into 1 would be better as it has more torque. He also said there are two schools of thought on the matter so I'm guessing you're of the other mind. They also sell the rest of the exhaust with reback muffler (does anyone know them, are they good.)\

I was going to do a cheap upgrade of a 3 into 1 pacemakers extractors with a 1.75" exhaust, and a 1.5" SU. Hoping that will give it a little go. Was also thinking about a little head work but really don't want to spend much.

If I'm going to do any serious work I'd just get a 1275 and do it to that.

Sorry I can't seem to get of this topic, guess I need to make a decision. :)

I can highly recommend Brownrigg extractors from LINK Automotive as mentioned above. They are very free flowing! (1.57 Eastern Creek, 2.00 Phillip Island).

I also don't believe that you can have "too good" a setup of extractors. The better the flow the more power. It is more an issue of cost. The Brownriggs cost around $450 I believe but contact Brian Pope from the website and he can give you a more accurate price.

The thing to look for with any type of LCB extractors is the flow of the pipes. Brownrigg's exit the head and flow straight out for a bit before heading down under the car. This is where they get the increase in performance. If you get a chance have a look at a set and compare them to other brands. They are hard to install and only just fit into the engine bay past the engine/gearbox but the extra hassle is definately worth it.

Back to the original question though, if you are on a limited budget search around and see what the best deal on a LCB is you can get. I'd even be asking the Mini Specialists in Adelaide if they have any second hand sets available as you can generally pick up something really good for a lot less money.

As HRS says, good ones come pretty straight back out of the head. My Maniflow one does too. Many locally made ones (like Perry) go down at a very sharp angle, particularly the middle pipe. Probably to fit under stock SU manifolds.. also the 3 pipes are too small for a quick 1275, IMO.
Doubt it matters on a roadgoing 1098, though! :wink:

I emailed Link Automotive, their price seems real good.

"Dear Paul,
Our suggestion would be a set of LCB extractors which will give the best
through the range performance in conjunction with a 1.75" exhaust and RC40
muffler. Use with a single HS4 (1 1/2" SU and cut cast iron manifold) will
give great performance boost. The extractors are $176.00. the engine pipe is
$35.00. The RC40 muffler is $121.00. There is a cheaper muffler/tailpipe
option which is $65.00. but nowhere near as good. The extractors and muffler
would be easy to freight, but the engine pipe may present a problem.

That sounds like what I was planing, What bit is the engine pipe, is that the 1.75" exhaust from the headers to the muffler?

PS. I thought these where 4 cyclinder motors but there's only 3 pipes was I wrong?? I'm a little confused.

I was thinking I'd get these headers and muffler and get the rest locally. What do you think?
