I get those "Please confirm you eBay details" messages quite often. (Along with ones banks etc)

Tw or three weeks ago I got a VERY convincing looking PayPal confirmation one. The only thing that gave it away ws the IP address in the link.

I did not click on the link, just forwarded it to PayPal. Got a reply a couple of hours later saying it was a new scam, and they were looking into it. Fortunately my account has not been accessed.

EDIT:
There is another 2003 Mini Cooper on eBay AU today for $10,000. Text reads very similar to the Mustand and the seller is a new user. Seller says that he needs to sell the car as he has moved overseas and cannot take the car with him. Car is listed as in Sydney. Yet the car in the photos has NZ plates!!

A girl here at work just asked me about an email she got from 'ebay' today. It said her bank had contacted ebay about some dodgy attempts to use her credit card. It then crapped on with some legal info and asked her to click on a URL. What appeared to be a legitimate ebay URL was actually a javascript link to an unknown IP address.

We didn't click the link, but I bet it was a page that mimicked the ebay log in page.......

you guys that are contacting them... let us know if you get an email apparently from ebay asking you to confirm your details... since i think it's part of this scam that if they don't make sale, they'll just nick your ebay ID and put up another item..

I have had a few of those emails, I foward them to Ebay so they can try to stop them!

The last mini looks quite convincing, the owner hasn't got a "fully optioned" model, and they allow COD. There is also a hidden reserve, and they will sell only in Australia.
Somebody ask em to explain the plates and find the reserve price.

A reply from Kim

Quote:
Hello ,

I bought this car from AU and it was rided only within AU. It was registrated in AU and I had all the services done there. The car was never crushed, droped or raced. I took care of it like it was my own baby and now is in the same condition as it was when I bought it - even better!.

The thing is that almost 5 months ago, I made that step - I got married !!! My wife is from London,United Kingdom and we decided to move there. My kid was born a week ago here in London,United Kingdom and, as a fresh daddy I can't find the time to ride the car anymore.

I brought the car here in London. I wanted to register the car here, but when I found out how much paper work I must do to register it here, only to rided once a month or less ... simply I gave up and decided to sell it and buy a car here (a family weagon is a must now).I even decided to support all the shipping charges in order to make a smooth deal for this car. I will use Lufthansa air cargo for shipping, so you will be able to receive it in 4 working days.

So what should I do next?

Ask them why they didn't sell the car here, and buy another one the same in london.
There's a lot more of them there and it would work out heaps cheaper.
Then come up with some crap like "I can't use a car loan to pay for a car that's overseas, and want it shipped here first" or somethin like that.
Theoretically, the person should have family in oz that could sell the car for them and forward the cash.

Just tell him to ship it to you first - If you like it you'll buy it if not you'll sell it for him locally as his agent. [minus 10% for your trouble]

heh I saw that yesterday.

It is probably NOS.......my door skin I bought 'new' looked a bit like that. They are original pressings from back in the day, put into storage then dug out 25 years later.....or so I was told
