Gotta say I'm in different minds about it. Its great to hear the sound of SU's or a weber sucking hard, and knowing that a carefully maintained engine can still do wonders.

BUT............. in this day and age, I'd almost kill someone to fit a 5 speed gearbox to my clubby. Hearing the poor girl screaming all the way home from work on the highway seems sorta cruel(goes through more of that expensive go juice too). I'd still be very happy with the car if I had a little fuel injected engine and 5 speed in her. I dont mind doing some work on the car, but it would be nice not having to tune the car every week, and clean the points etc etc

I'm always changing my view on this. This month it's the good ol A series, however last month was a completely different story! Will probably change back next month!

Too much bloody work, I reckon. I like VTECs etc, but if I wanted one real bad I'd go buy a Honda and join the fast'nfurious brigade.

Anyhow my 1310 A series with 45 Dellorto sounds pretty cool at 7500+...

I reckon all Cooper and Cooper S should be stock and restored to orginal condition and cared for.

If the car is in a pretty sad state and you're doing a full rebuild then you may as well put some 21st century donk in it and make the most of a mini that otherwise might be sent to the tip. I'm all for anything that keeps a mini on the road !!!

Thats a tricky little topic....

I must say that a MINI with a BMW motor in it ISN'T a mini, being that it is a different car altogether...... but in the classic bodyshapes, i'm not one to be against engine swaps..

At the end of the day, if you own a mini with a different engine in it (eg. Honda), you wont be saying "i drive a mini...", you'd probably say "i drive a VTEC mini..." to point out that something is different under the bonnet.... and it takes over $10,000 to get the word VTEC in there!!!

I agree with DEWEY in that upspec models, such as coopers and 1275GT's, should be kept in their original glory, as they were limited in production..... not that a fully restored 850 wouldnt be cool too!!!!

Minis with engine swaps are great, but not compareable to other minis....

Musta cost a pretty penny for the S/charger, and quite a few hours swearing getting it all to fit, I bet.

Well if your talking of keeping the car original, I better strip off the 2 pak paint, remove the weber carb the high ignition dizzy, the high torque starter, return the radiator to open flow not pathed.......etc etc, I think the A series engine is not what mini was about exactly, I thought it was about a traverse mount front drive config originally. Personally a restored mini is something to be placed in shows and be proud of but as a current fun car I'm going down the path to be a VTEC man with 5 speed LSD big brakes and all the current mod cons I can jam in my 68 van. When anyone sees the car they'll call it a mini, go figure?

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

The extensions were a commercial fix to saving money. The need for extensions is due to the engine tilt and manifold clearances. Effort to extend the body work should be spent on effective inlet and outlet manifolds and then a kit becomes and more effective transplant (not cost wise). Or the clubby could house it as is and you'd have 'S' pie for breakfast.

......and maybe putting a radiator in a NON existent gap.....

......and also because you DONT want a clubby front end......

Wow fitting a super charger and saying there's no room for a radiator. Bet I can fit a full size radiator and you wouldnt know. Well actually it's a cut down Prelude cooler path flowed as well but larger then the civic one.

Whats next that wont work?
