Spare goes behind the passenger....

...and slides under the upper load floor.

So if you have high-back seats without removable headrests, you have to remove the passenger seat to get the spare out... :(

Mine only has the gasket on the Lid. Yep I think its the orginal going by how old it looks. It does not have the seal on the roof but the roof has been resprayed to it may have been taken off and not replaced.
One other thing theat does interest me thought, mine is rifited down and not nut and bolt like i'f seen with the others that have been posted up here. Which one was orginaly done.

I reckon rivets were original - I've never seen bolts, and the original holes are too small for bolts

that is a very pretty little van, nice work....

I'm getting rid of my vent, I hate it - spoils that perfect flat roof

Mine has the rivets.

SK - the vents are COOL! :D

Open the front quarter window and the vent and you get a nice flow through ventilation! Watto fitted a vent to his cl;ubby van for this reason.

Besides, you would have weld in a patch to remove it neatly...

Regarding the battery. Directly behind the drivers seat if I lift up the carpet and underlay on the loading floor i have a hatch that can be opened to access the battery. Its possible that this could be a modification I'm not sure on the history of that. It can also be acessed as normal by sliding it out the bottom .

Definitely a mod, but a sensible one. You cannot slide the batter under there as original.

Post some pics??

Cheers,

I'm fairly sure that this is not a mod AFAIR....just typical British Engineering....I've seen this arrangement on a Traveller and was horrified

Travellers have the battery under the rear seat as standard. What's so horrific about it?

All vans left the factory with the battery directly behind the drivers seat, not under a cover further back. There is a metal plate that prevents the battery sliding underneath. If the battery can be slid under the load floor on this van it is definitely a mod.

I'm with bnicho, that battery cover is definitely a mod....

I like the vent for the flow through air, but I hate it for leaking, and it looks pov, plus those extra 8 or so square inches of frontal area are slowing me down :!: :!: :!:

but look, my van is fully sick with it's racing stripes
Image

but the vent just spoils it - check this out
with the vent, ewww
Image
and without, sweeet
Image

although, I must admit that it is an awesome place to hang the mirror ball, especially on a sunny day when you can open the vent and the sun hits it... (note, they're NO GOOD on the rear view mirror)
Image

here's another recommended mod for those who like to fang their vans - braces the inner arches from flexing, and gives you something to strap yer milk crate to

in regards to the battery, i have peered into a SUZUKI Carry once at the wreckers (the small skinny vans) and they have a battery box that has the top flush with the cargo floor. the box can be removed. it's kinda hard to explain, but next time i'll take a pic of it. i thought it was an interesting way to stow the battery in a minivan.
