I have recently purchased the remnants of a 10th month 1970 police car and was looking for any info that others may have.

They were slower than my 1969 Fiat 124 Sport on the open road... as one found out.. 8)

Seriously..
Most got the `Police pack'- twin HS4 carbs, tropical fan, 731? cam, so they had a few more herbs than a stocker.

Yep...and slower than a certain Datsun 1600 through the Campbelltown bends 8) still booked me though

Then there was the Wagga/Young Highway Patrol....that trialled cross flow heads and "sycle" carbies.

I restored one as a concourse car and sold it a few years ago. Was tamarisk green all over and carried plates 70BMC in QLD. Currently still in touch with the owner and with some luck it will end up back in my garage again. Have heaps of photos and info if you want to drop me a line. Greg PS a police car is different from a "Police Pack" Not all police coopers were police pack varieties.

the security guard at my work used to be NSW highway patrol - he had a few Cooper S's in 69/70 ish - got some really cool stories about them, like driving with one bloke and snapped a trailing arm cos it was worn out from too many handbrake turns, taking the car to the tuners at the start of the weekend for a 'race tune' and a couple of gallons of octane booster, then detuning again on monday morning before returning it to the station...

before a cop could drive an S they had to get Cooper S accreditation, which meant a specific driver training course :!:

love that pic of the cop K - were there any marked highway patrol S's? I thought long and hard about buying a brown one that was advertised a while back.

there is a pic floating around around somewhere of two toffeenose looking mr plods standing next to their plain coloured cooper Ss under the rocks side of the sydney harbour bridge.

I looked at an ex cop cooper s at sydneys old timer centre on cleveland rd but it was pretty poor. Had the 1/4 carbs, tickled cam and stuff.
