yeah, that sits in my mind as the worst..... but try getting the clips off the injectors on a 7 series BMW, my mechanic mate gave up on them and made me do it for him - mini's are easy once you've done everything a couple of times

well today i put my whole cooling system back together, and while i probably did it in an unorthodox fashion, i had quite a bit of trouble.

order i put things on:
water pump
alternator
water pump fan cover
fan belt
radiator with lower shroud
fan
upper shroud
thermostat
thermostat housing
radiator to thermostat cover

the hard parts:
mounting the lower shroud and radiator onto the bracket down the bottom.
put the bolts into the fan with the radiator on (i wasnt about to undo the lower shroud from the bracket).
after finally struggling with that, i put it all together.
But when i went to extend the alternator out to tighten the slack on the fan belt (right at the end) i found that the fan belt was too long. extended the alternator out as far as i could. nope it was still too long. so i took the fan belt off, keeping everything in tact. swapped the fan belt for the RIGHT one at sprints. put it back on and vhwalla.

I then found a broken temp sender. so i made 8 trips to the shops, and finally managed to find that after replacing the temp sender unit (1st trip) i also needed to replace a fuse which wasn't quite connected. after wasting so much time all u can do is laugh.

Speedo Cable....

Well, on my Turbo anyway.....

The normal angle it comes into the bulkhead is compromised by the plenum chamber..
So unless i get it just right.... SNAP in the first 20 Klm .....
Then its third wrist time again.....

What a BASTARD of a Job .......it also gets expensive.....

J

Move the speedo binnacle into the car a bit. Screw it ONTO the trim, spacer under if needed.. Makes room for plenum chambers, or Weber boxes.... :P

You mean the upper and lower rails ?

Hmmmm... Would need to make up a "spacer-ring" or similar to seal the gap, wouldnt I ?

Top & bottom rails stay wheer is. Barney has the binnacle screwed thru the trim into the body.
Whan I do mine, I'll make an oval spacer from MDF and put that under the trim, then screw thru it. Push binnacle out even more.
I've seen some race cars years back with the front of the binnacle extended but it looks messy.

Had fun changing the old brakes hoses front and rear, quite difficult especially the driver's side front with the pressure switch there. Got there though.

Speedo cable bottom end! The forearm lacerations lasted weeks! Next time I'll drop the whole subframe.
