Boot lids are prone to accident damage so it's no wonder original Cooper S lids are a dying breed. Of course the only fundamental difference between a standard lid and a Cooper S one is the drillings for the badges and the liner board. My MK II S boot lid is not original and whoever fitted it didn't do a very good job locating the badges (see first photo below).

I'm wondering if there's some kind Member with an original MK II S boot lid who would volunteer to produce a schematic showing the exact locations of the badge holes, with dimensions and hole sizes. I guess this could be a boot lid photo with the badges removed showing measurements to fixed locations (e.g. distance to the boot handle holes, hinge holes) so a drilling template could be made. The same for bonnet badges would greatly assist we restorers who need to use non-original parts but don't have an accurate reference.

As an example of the variations that exist I took some 'mug shots' of Cooper S back ends at the Big Day Out (see below) and noted a few variations on the 'S' and 'MORRIS COOPER' boot badge locations, mine being the most different. I suspect some of these are non-original lids like mine.

Notice the different spacings...some cars have the S close to the boot script...others are way above (MKIIs??).

I would also like to say whoever they got to get the Ss made did a pretty average job....at a distance they look fine...but close up....the font etc is just all wrong and certainly looks like an after thought  (did they pinch the S off another car :?: )

The ones that are way above have been put on non-S bootlids... usually. Like our Barney's....

Mine is the KFD865 and I reckon my S is too high. Probably a boot change at some point.

O' Yeah of litte faith! BMC body stampings wern't that bad.

Then again, a friend who bought a Morris 1100 back in '69 complained to his dealer the LHS of the car was 1/2" longer than the RHS measured along the body line. Some people you just can't please..............

The three "S" lids I have have the holes all edzackery the same. Using the centrelines for all the holes, the Morris Cooper script is 133 mm below the boothandle.

My guess is FTN345, MCS69, SMK 269, 663H & JW 0689 are kosher.

Over to you Simon  .
