 Post subject: rear brakes

hi peoples

i have been trying to no avail to get my handbrake working. the cords pull but nothing happens down the other end??? :( what could be the problem? is it something to do with fluid or what?

any help would be great

No it's a mechanical linkage in each drum..
Check the quadrants on the trailing arms are free to move, maybe the pivot pins in the rear brakes are jammed. If so give 'em a bath then free them up! :wink:

Have you also adjusted the drums at the backing plate.
Cable could have streched

Does it feel like there is any resistance there when you operate the lever??

Check the adjustment of the cables......

Check the levers on the rear Brake Backing Plates ....are the ends of the brake cables even connected!! are the levers all frozen up (pull the cable or try to move the levers at the backing plate)

Check (with a helper) with one drum off that the shoes are moving outward when the lever is pulled

However, sounds to me like your rear brakes are probably just worn down too low or are not correctly adjusted
