l know there are two types of speedo cables screw on for early model minis and push on for late models. Is this the internal cable end that fits into the gearbox housing the same for both screw on and push on ? That is should both cables have a square end ?
My present system uses a screw on cable with a square end. I am redoing the instrument cluster and dash using gauages of a triumph dolomite which uses the push on cable. l purchased a new push on cable which has an oval gearbox end and tested it by attaching it to the gearbox housing and running the engine in gear however the cable does not turn. Do you think l have got the wrong cable or maybe the gear housing for screw on and push on cable are different?

It should be square on the gearbox end. Mine was taken out before I got it and had to sides flattened to make the square smaller and then a smaller cable would fit and work fine.

Push the cable in from the top!!!!
Yes the bottom end is the same square end used on 99.99999999% of Pommy cars.

Took some photos of the gearbox end of the cable.Does not look square to me.
Do you think this is the correct cable? The speedo end connects and works fine.
