The Saga Continues!

About 2 months ago I complained of starting problems. Turns out it's the starter motor so i went out and got a nice new recond motor, wacked it in and hey presto!

So today I go to crank her over to go to supercheap to pick up my free BBQ tool    and she won't start!!!

Click click is all i get. Anyway after consulting the good doc it turns out it's a dud motor! Geez... I feel cursed to forever having clicking noises instead of starting.

Anyway it's on warranty so everything should be ok. Just a hassle!!!

Yes he bypassed the solenoid to jump the starter- no sparkies and no spin..
Lights etc work, so 12V is at the solenoid..!

Thats ok if you have got a good cement drive way not a grass paddock and if you did not have to make any stops in between getting on the new starter

Maybe.....

Minis are light...one of the easiest cars to push...you only need about 10 feet at reasonable pace on level ground, jump in, pop the clutch and away you go....

I had to do this once for an extended period of time and got used to parking in spots where I wouldn't be parked in (a challenge) and where I had a slight downhill advantage ....

(apprentices don't get paid much and I needed to wait a week or two to pay for an exchange starter! There was no INTERNET then or Ausmini where seventeen people would come around to your house and help fit one of the eight starter motors they had under the house!!!)

yep but when you have a paddock that is full of holes and rises it is hard to push on your own and keep it gong fast enought to pop in 2nd and start it.

So you get people to push.....

You start up the Fordson and hitch the Mini up with a rope and pull it out to the main road......

You jack up one side of the Mini, chock the wheel thats on the ground, turn ignition on, select top, wrap a rope around the tyre and pull like a word that means something that gay peope do

there is more than one way to skin a cat!!!

Well at this stage of the game, starting the car is the least of my problems. I need to get out to Heritage MG on a weekday, now that is a challenge!!!

Nothing says end of starter motor woes than GE Mini.

$35 at pick and payless, a few minutes filing and it's in. Read the other posts on what else you need to do wiring wise. You could be lucky like me and bag one that had been recently re-coed but in long enough to have been covered in oil and dirt again to make it look "original" - 3 months in a Gemini it seems!
