Why is it that a Mini fan looks like it's in the wrong way, when in fact it is the right way?

If it wasn't for the little 'Engine Side' mark on the fan, mine would be in the wrong way!

I have found that If I put it on the wrong way it would rub on the upper engine stablizer mount.

Good thing it's not the earlier 16 blade metal one then- no markings, you'd be lost!
OK.. at least that one won't fit too good backwards...

Well one trick is to give it a spin while the engine is out and feel if it is blowing air away from the engine with the other hand....takes a deep breath....I spin it by pushing down (just like Larry tells ya to) looking at the spark plug side of the engine.

Mick, even on backwards it'll blow air thru the rad. Just less of it.. Helix angle is the same but less aerodynamic.
If you wanna suck air the other direction you need a Morris Minor etc fan.. its helix is opposite hand.

Yep...and thats why people get into so much trouble....I'm still laughing about this one....

Day 12 - July 3rd

Mini Meet East 2000
Route: As per Mini Meet East 2000 Instructions
Kilometres: don't know
Time: all day, every day
Phone Call: MP3 (360Kb) or WAV (1.5meg) format

Mini Meet Notes: 3rd Day -Mini Meet East 2000
With the Slalom racing/Autocross and Funkhama set in a large Mall parking lot in Magog, everyone was up early to clear the buffet breakfast and get down the hill by 10 a.m. and we were no exception, even though I would not be entering Pooh.

Keith Calver spent the weekend telling people their fans were on backwards. So many were that he is considering printing a card that says "p.s. your fan is on backwards" Engine side"

I like the metal ones. They don't sound like a 737 at takeoff, like the plastic ones do. And they blow enough air for my 1310. OK- the MiniMatic heater helps cool it too.. 8)
Out Clubbie's plastic one sent a blade into orbit.. that's 1098 power for you!

I love the metal ones when they touch the radiator shroud, bend the blades and carve a 10inch hole straight through the radiator.
Same goes for the exploding plastic one.

I was told by someone on the weekend up at Jim's garage sale that the metal ones blow more air..
On this same not..I noticed one of our QLD guys has a 4 blade fan...and has over heating problems

I doubt the 16 blade blows more than the wide blade plastic one does, but at least the blades don't bent with heat, or fly off..
