Here's a theory from left field for you - Reason DJ Retired when he did.

Think about it :?

1983 - Huge Crash, Forrests Elbow - lucky to walk away

1993 - Huge Crash, top of mountain passing backmarker - bounced around like a yoyo off the fences 3 or 4 times - lucky to walk away.

Maybe he didn't wanna try his luck in 2003??

HA HA HA I've obviously got way too much time on my hands!!

Because.... he was only going backwards??

I still say the best days were the late 80's / early 90's. Dick, Longhurst and Brock in Sierras, Skaife and Richards in Skylines..... oh man ...LOVE IT!!

Hey I've still got a piece of that car.
Dick bought it back to brissy and put the shell through a new metal Shredder at Sims metal. Every employee of Palmer Tube Mills got a piece that was cased in a dome of plastic. My mate is a manager at PTM now Smorgans and gave me his.

He would stroll over to Dick's workshop for a chat as Dick had his workshop in the Palmer Tube Mills gounds at Acacia Ridge.
I've heard heaps of stories like how the bought over the two Sierrias from the UK cut in halves so they could cram them into a container.
and when Dick's mechanics would test drive the Sierrias on the street when Dick wasn't around.
..........
