I'd take all the valves out first and wire brush the crud off. Check the guides for wear. Reface the valves and seats if they need it.
You can clean up the chambers- just watch you don't scratch the valve seats! Wire brush in a drill is good.
Replace the valve stem seals on the inlets- they do go hard pretty quick. I don't use them on exhausts (I've got bronze guides and they like some lube).

Scrape the stuff off the head and block carefully. I use a 3/8" square HSS toolbit held on its edge. Countersink the head stud holes in the block if there are any burrs there.
Finally, give the head and block faces a rub with a scotchbrite pad, and a wipe with some thinners.
Don't use any sealer on the black BK450 gasket!

The top of the 3rd exhaust valve is worn out almoust to the plate that holds the spring. The corresponding rocker face is pretty bad too and a few other rockers are less than perfect.

I really want to do everything myself, but since I dont have a spring compressor and since I probably shouldnt do anything till I've seen it done properly atleast once, I'm gonna take the head to the mechanic tommorow.

Who'd be better in this case - Mini Spares and Repairs in Castle Hill or Graham Russell?
I've been to the castle hill guys before and they seemed pretty good, especialy Colin, but everyone seems to go to G Russell for all the engine and performance specific stuff.

Even Colin and Ivan get stuff done at Graham Russell..

Graham is good, but always busy.
You could also try Greg at Mini Classic at 2/27 Hope St, Ermington.
ph 9874 7211, mob 0411 869 438.

If you just want valves & seats cut any engine roconditioner can do it. 8)

Cheapest place to buy new valves is Karcraft.

I want to go to a guy who actualy knows minis, otherwise it'll be like with my carbys which after being rebuilt by a carby "specialist" and tuned twice by him still dont work anywhere near what they should be like.

I took it to Graham today, I just wanna be able to come to this forum with a positive story rather than my constant question asking, whinging and complaining.
