Someone talk me out of chopping the roof off my 850! hehe

Are there any places in Melbourne who specialise in doing convertable conversions? I'm wanting to take it there, they chop the roof and do all the right mods to get an engineering cert, then hand it back to me to go off and paint and stuff.

edit/ I dont need no soft top roof made, if it rains, I drive my 1275 LS.

Poee, as an 850 owner, i can say that they are a much rarer now than Cooper S. In fact there are more Cooper S available now than were ever produced by the factory. So find yourself a Cooper S and chop the roof off that instead

If you are going to do it to a car that is already pretty much a mess, i for one won't stop you, but don't do it to an original car "just" because its an 850. And make it into a roadster with the doors welded up and only two seats and a steel top over where the rear seats used to be and paint it purple and ....and.....and....

Well I use the term 850, but there is like 1/2 an 850 engine there! It's not an original car, it's been resprayed in the past (which was done REAL BAD, and needs it done again). It's more a shell than a car!

I'll happily trade a deluxe/minik/COOPER! of the same condition for it!

Here's a link to John's Rod & Custom down in Berwick:
http://www.kustoms.com.au/catalogue/kustomizing.html

John's a master of chopping rods and kustoms (hence his Chopper nickname) and has been a huge driving force behind kustoms in Australia for many years.

This'll at least give you an idea of some semblence of rough cost, although the costs involved with a mini would be a bit less, I'd imagine.

I think a mild chop would be nicer than a full top-off though.....

Oh Man, that site is going to be VERY bad news for my Hip pocket....

Guess who'se BSA may end us as a "Kustom" ?
Trying to get the whitewalls at the moment.. but a set of 8-ball licence plate bolts and Valve caps wouldnt go astray.....

AS to the Roof, Just a sectioning should be nice.. Take about 8" out of it (leaves about 6" of windscreen) should look very, very low and sleek.... Nice...

My thoughts, a car is a car, 850, cooper, radford, whatever... someone made it once upon a time, you now own it, do what YOU want to do !!

Cheers
J

Poeee, I wont talk ya out of it.

Or maybe I will.

1. I've allowed $12,000 for my roadster. That will cover everything.
2. Nothing better than roofless driving.Image
3. Lack of security without a roof. Cant have loose valuables like CD's or clothes.
4. Forget rain..... When a bird shits on it..... theres no roof to protect YOU or your interior.
5. 850 doors are not the safest WITH a roof, without a roof they can pop open.

Anything else?
