Seriously - if you want to do it yourself - go to the source - get yourself a copy of Vizzard's book "How to modify your Mini" - It tells you all the tricks, step by step.

Okay its a 998 block...whats the head you purshased..it all depends..if its a 940..it pocket time...925... 8) 202....its a bit of work to be done :!:

Let me say its about 9 hours on a die grinder if its a 202 head and that has nothing to do with whats on top

The 12G202 is a good conversion as the valves are a little bigger than the standard 998 head. Price wise I got no change from $1000 but that included crack testing and seat inserts(all 8!) plus cc-ing, machining the inlet port for the locating rings(twin SU manifold), valves/retainers and collets and a bit of a clean up. They even painted it for me.

The 12G940 will require you to pocket the 998 block to remove the chance of the valves tap dancing on your block face. Toungue in cheek tough, I ran a 940 on the engine I have with a 998 without the pocketing but was not running a hotter cam and bog standard running gear. The cheaper option is the 202 and do as I did - get them to machine the inlet ports to accept the locating rings for a twin set-up - saves heartache trying to line the manifold up with the hole.

Hooroo for now

I think Gaf was talking about a 295 not a 925...
202 and 295 are both small bore heads, better than the common 12A1456 fitted to 850 and 998.
202 head can be modified (with a fair bit of work and $$$) to flow as well as/better than a 295 one- which is the gun head but getting scarce.

940 and 1316 are 1275 heads.
1316 is used on LS and 1275 Moke- basically it's a 940 head casting with air injection ports added to reduce emissions.

When you consider (12G)940 heads, there are various types:
Morris 1100S (9 stud) 1.312" inlet valves
Mk2 Cooper S (11 stud) 1.401" inlet valves

Other 940 heads below were not sold here, but some have been brought in since:

Metro 1.312" inlet valves
MG Metro 1.401" inlet valves
MG Metro turbo 1.312" inlet valves, sodium filled exhaust valves with bigger guides.

Cheers Kev.

it all depends on if you wish to use the head you have...or to spend some $$$$$ on a head and modifi it to your engine.

If you are staying with the one you have..its machining the ports...larger valves and opening up the chambers and double valve springs to make it breath better...still $$ and time at least 10 hours work for some one :?
