IMO, your carbs are the bottleneck. A weber would be a good upgrade. 8)

Basically, you can get very slightly better power below about 3000rpm by using a large SU, but for the best gain over the whole rev range you can't beat the good old Weber.

If you are interested, I have a Weber 40DCOE off a matched pair, one of which is in my mini at the moment so they do work fine. Will require jetting to your engine though.

PM if you're interested.

Ciao Ray.

think Ray is right...you need to upgrade to a bigger single, twin 1 1/2s, Weber or Delloroto.. :D

It is my understanding that to use any sort of decent manifold with a Weber it is necessary to modify the engine bulkhead and install an airbox. Not something a lot of people would find attractive.

The Docs Dellorto fits in without a carby box...a GR manifold, solid gasket mounting and maybe the thinest of airfilters can be done....

I went from a 1.5" SU to a 40mm Dellorto and I have more power down low than i did before, and a shitload more midrange, not to mention the top end :D

Not saying everyone will get good power down low, possible my SU was particularly bad, either way though power down low isn't bad at all..I had a bit of trouble setting it up properly, using the dyno today really helped to see what it was doing, but now i can take off from 1500rpm 8) was 3000 before i fiddled with it.

Mine is fitted with no mods what so ever to the firewall. Just use a redline 3005 manifold or similar (its a non-swan neck) and a ramflo air filter and it WILL fit.

As Mini Mad said, using the Redline 3005 manifold you'll fit a DCOE Weber or similar dellorto without any mods to the fire wall. You'll need to use a ram-flow air filter on the end and there's about enough room for a bee's d$*k left.

Note this is on a Clubman. I'm not sure if there is similar clearance on the roundies...

Ciao Ray.

Haha you described the clearance well

It's the same on a roundnose, there is no difference between the two, extra length from clubman is all in the front, engine is mounted the same distance from the firewall :)

If you want to stay with a SU you could us a HIF44 (1 3/4) as I have on Morris...I was a little disapointed also to day.. 45.2 but atleast I know its running Rich down low and Lean up High...as with Mini Mad I need to play around with the Carb (needle) to stay infront of him 8)

All above suggestions are good, I would add some 1.5 rockers to that Wade cam to give it more lift. Watch the valve springs though- you will probably need C-AEA526 springs or similar to avoid coil bind. These have 1 less free coil. Good for 8000 rpm. 8)

Oh and if fitting a Weber or Dellorto with these mods I'd get a 45 not 40- and use 36mm chokes in it.
