its not the carbs that wear out its the rest of the engine :!: you just adjust the carb to compensate for the engine wear, and changes in the weather from summer to winter. and people wonder why we say efi is better. self adjusting :D

Just for the record I believe all spring-type .100 needles start with a B. So EDP needle may be BDP and be a bit worn (or BDR as you say). Beware of the automatic needle selection part of WinSU, I figure if it takes years of experience with SUs to select needles, a computer program aint gonna do it :) Bearing in mind it has no selection for RE-13 cams, also thinks a 12G206 is the same as a 12G202, and also wont let you input what carburettor you have :!: Recommends an HIF6 for almost every engine configuration.

Other than that, the program is great for charting needles, I used to use it all the time when I ran SUs.

I'd also say if your SUs are going out of adjustment after a few weeks there is something seriously wrong that requires fixing. Never had problems with my SUs going out of tune.

BTW Kevin, you'll probably be able to knock those 800 needles down to a much smaller selection to choose from once you figure that 95% of them are wrong for your use ;)

Anto.

$14.30 well spent I think.....After 45 Minutes of discustion I have purchased a BCA. Not a Great deal of differance but a bit richer in the middle. Intersting thing Bill mentioned...Some people use a very fine file on one side to richen the mixture
If you have any quetions about SU's give Bill (Sivo) a Call hes very infomative and will spend the time with you. You don't find this kind of attention any more..Mention Ausmini to him also

Yep, one side... no-one is accurate enough to file a needle perfectly round !!
One side is enough to richen the mixture where you need it...
I actually filed mine about 0.020" at the very tip to give it that extra fuel up top.... seems to have worked too based on the AF readings from Saturday !

See, sometimes seat of the pants IS Right !!

Cheers
J

Never thought I'd see this, but the other day I saw a needle being shortened (heaps) to make it richer at full throttle.... and it worked too!

Where did you see this Kev

I can see some on putting a neddle in a drill press with a very fine grade of wet and dry and taking .01 off...Which I "May do" :? I'll see how this needle goes first

Hammill writes good books- I've got his Weber/Dellorto one and his 2 books on building A series motors.
All are available from www.pitstop.net.au
