if it has the ID plate, it's worth a couple of grand to the right buyer, aussie produced S's didn't have sliding windows from the factory, pommy ones did

i believe it is an early uk mk 1 as it has wide boot lit and only a single tank filler, it also has boot board brackets and remote shifter fitted, the upper and lower dash rails have black vinyl on them, also fitted are stainless bumpers and over riders. someone has flogged the compliance plates, but would body numbers be enough? what other marks or identifyible features would be on an early mk1 cooper s ?

early mk 1 coper s had rhs tank as a option, also there is no diagonal grille brace, does anyone know if 997/8 coopers have this brace ?

early aussie ones had the oil cooler mounted vertically off the side of the oil filter housing, so still had a vertical brace - pommy ones should be the same. I've got a book called 'original mini cooper' all about the pommy ones, identification etc. Give me the numbers and I might be able to find some details in that book

Hi,
The first edition Aussie " Mini Experience " magazine has some excellent reading on the differences between the early British and Aussie Mk1 Cooper S.
Some nice photos too.

Could be a 997 cooper, I have a spreadsheet (Top secret 8) ) of about 40 cars numbers, if you want I can look up the body number, is it a 4 digit number on the bulkhead / firewall to the left of speedo (Drivers side)? Is the front (beaver) panel full below bumper or does it have brake cooling cut outs? Are there any trims along wheel arches? are they stainless or plastic? What about gear lever hole and 'patch where 850 style lever would have been? Any Number on the passenger side rear floor?
Does it have a heater? what style? Speedo housing? Blah Blah I could go on, but that's enough for now!! :?

PM me the number if you like? :D

Are the gutter drains small holes or do they look like a smile cut out.If u know what i mean. Our sill panel is flat all the way along except for drain holes, pommy ones have a return at the front that points down. hope this helps.
