I went for a little drive in the van the other day and the starter solenoid died. So this was the natural progression...

Looks like along with the subframe bushings and swing arms, I'll be redoing the brakes (+removing the booster I added with my discs), looking at the previous owner's dodgy work on the handbrake bracket and a whole host of other work.

Seriously though, the previous owner was a savage. Hole in the floor? put a plate on top and sikaflex it. More holes? undercoat. Suspension looks a bit off? Undercoat, undercoat the whole thing, bolts, nuts, big clumps of dirt, shocks whatever it is just cover it.

Yes, winter is on its way. tomorrow is our first day below 20 in the Valley
Temp drops fast after 5PM, makes it hard to get motivated to be in the shed
More clothes, more red Wine !!
So much to do before Rylstone.

Put some fuel in it, drove it around for a bit of a run and then came home and pulled the wheels off and greased all of the grease nipples (including the one on the remote shift). Chucked the wheels back on and even used the torque wrench on the wheel nuts.

Was wondering why suspension down on left side, with no hydro fluid leaks showing until discovered weird liquid dripping off rear subframe....hydro joint was leaking so took off, cleaned thoroughly and pumped hydro back up with my trusty grease gun pump.....so nice to have suspension again.......ready to tackle McCarrs Creek road next week.....

Had a couple of repairs done by Mini Classic last week

So drove it to work as I do most days :)

New Clutch
New Steering Rack
Some new Brake Lines
And he found the random mis-fire that has been driving me nuts for so long (he disconnected the Rev counter) no more mis-fire.
I actually did some more digging and found a loose earth on the rev counter. I rewired the dash after it decided to smoke on the freeway a while ago where I found no less then 4 Positives and Negative cables all wired randomly.

The drive to work and home was perfect. Looking forward to it again tomorrow.

Replaced the original ignition switch after 44 years, 4 months service...in the '73 Mini Window Van...emphasis on Van, Commercial etc.

Challenge...

Aftermarket switch had 4 wires - RED, BLUE, WHITE, YELLOW

OEM switch had 4 wires - BROWN, WHITE with Red tracer, WHITE & WHITE with Blue tracer [NO reference includes a WHITE with Blue tracer coming from the switch, so badly have 'commercial' variants been treated from the beginning]

Well,...RED would go to BROWN (battery positive), BLUE would go to WHITE with Red tracer (solenoid), WHITE would go to WHITE (ignition coil & fuse), YELLOW would go to WHITE with Blue tracer (accessories).

It worked. Hope this helps others.

Replaced the old paper oil filter with a new twist on one.
Used the adapter that mini kingdom sell
An easy job but timely found it easier to remove the alternator then it was easy to get to.
Note to self your replacing bolts with studs so don't forget to pic up some nuts that fit.

Now I can change the filter without too much headache

Spent the afternoon putting new clutch master cylinder and rebuilt BL Comps split brake master cylinder (Special Tuning part # C – AJJ 3388) back into the S refurbished engine bay. Getting the clevis pins back in never seems to get any easier. I was going to use R clips but have heard they can get knocked out if the pin turns, so ended up using normal split pins but only turned one leg down to aid removal next time (and there's always a next time).
