Dry assembled the 1275 1100s block and did some measuring and add ups of bits needed to get it complete before sending off to the machine shop. Figured it has sat for long enough in pieces and had no spares left over. Will be 40 over and crankshaft will need a machine on the mains and big ends also. Open up the wallet and watch it get drained quickly

Yesterday I went on a lunch run with the local mini club, we just toodled along with an 850 traveller leading and then they split up to go home. One fella said "I'm going to Yack if anyone wants to come" and he took me the looong way with lots of really nice roads at a more enjoyable speed. Had a lovely day, haven't done that for years

To offset the drudgery of pulling apart my 850 that hasn’t seen a spanner for nearly 50 years I thought I would have a crack at restoring some of the stuff that will eventually get put back into the car.

Windscreen wiper unit, door locks, gear knob & shifter as well as fuel sender unit and fuel tank all refurbished.

Now back to the grinding......

Fitted a refurbished VH44J servo sourced from David Booth in Southport. He had a nice unit still with original plating in good condition. Exchanged my previous servo which had been painted blackImage

Scrubbed my 1100 block and head to within an inch of its life, fitted new welch plugs and oil gallery plugs, then painted it ready for assembly.
Scrubbed the rocker assembly and then found a forged rocker assembly in my parts boxes. so now soaking that for a good clean, will test fit both during assembly and pick the best set for the job.
Did some minor polishing and decided i need a bench polisher so i can do it properly so gave up.

Started pulling apart my first gearbox, realised i don't have a 1 1/2 inch extended socket so ordered one so i can continue when it arrives.

Explained to the wife that once my van was off the hoist it was her sedans turn and yes it will be running before she turns into worm food.

Got confirmation that another van i located should be delivered in the next fortnight. Told the wife we definitely needed it as the parts alone would come in handy.
Made some enquiries about another 2 mini's that may be for sale (didn't tell the wife).
Surfed the net and located more parts that i 'may need one day' and purchased them.
I think i have a severe case of mini fever, its much worse than covid and the plague combined.

Not today but yesterday, assembled the engine, a few more bits to clean up and paint ready for assembly.
Getting there bit by bit.
Continually learning with some great advice, many thanks to those that have passed on info that will save me having to build this for the third time.
Looking forward to hearing this 1100 fire into life again

Installed a Walsall Wheels steering wheel. Took a week of sanding, varnishing and polishing to restore it to its former glory. Worth the effort. Also received the restored Britax rear seat belts from Denis Williams and fitted them - did a great job.ImageImage
