That would have been a nice drive...What do you think of the diff ratio then :shock:

See post above. For what I want, excellent!
If I just wanted to give kazjim a hard time at Wakefield PK I'd have dropped the 3.765 in.. but this one is a nice compromise. :wink:

Your diff is the gear that drives the wheels. The smaller the diff, the higher the top speed, the larger the diff the slower the top speed but the harder the acceleration. A regular mini has a 3.44 inch diff, a K had a 3.66 diff so it took off faster.

With a 3.44 diff you can do about 110 on the free way at around 3600rpm (something like that, I don't really know cause my speedo is innacurate after 40mph :oops: )

Actually I now drive with my tacho rather than my speedo, it's way more accurate.

Back to diffs, in the UK they have smaller diffs like 3.2 etc so you can do faster speeds on the autobahn :lol:

Duc, various Minis had different diff ratios.

The ratio is how many times the engine turns per driveshaft revolution, with standard drop gears (1:1).

3.765:1= Morris 850, 997 & 998 Cooper, Mini Deluxe
3.647:= Mini K, 1098 Clubman
3.444:= 1275 Cooper S, Leyland Mini Clubman rod change boxes (most).
Other ratios- 3.9, 4.133, 4.26 were used for competition.

MiniMatic has a 3.26:1 diff, but the overall ratio is 3.76 because the drop gears are not 1:1 ratio.

Mokes? I have absolutely NFI what they ran... :lol:

I can still remember the engine # the cops gave me for my new 1100S short motor back in `66, it was N661771P..

and the 1275S one I put into Gareth's car 8 years ago was N891501P..

Now what DID I have for breakfast...??? :?
