Damn Graham , just when I decide on an "ultimate engine" design someone goes and does something like that head    The design being done at the moment for such an old engine is amazing .

I was wondering are these 7 port heads worth using on small bore engines?

Youd have to pocket the block to fit the exhaust valves.

Im contemplating doing one turboed on a 998, but its got to wait til after all the other projects.

I got some information on the head from the company and they said they are hoping it'll be around the $4000 mark. This is the email they sent me.

"yes our head is simular to the Alexander head ,our design uses modern technology to manufacture and we have fixed all the pre existing problems that they had with 60's hand built designs.
the head is designed to fit all large bore A series engines and with some block mods could fit the 1000cc engines.
it comes with special 1.5 to 1 ratio roller rockers standard, pillars are part of the head inner cover and shaft is custom also.
valve sizes intake 35.15mm, exhaust 31.15mm one piece stainless or titanium on request.
retainers are also titanium .
this is designed to work with standard cam shaft but we will be suppling special grinds on request.
will fit standard exhaust manifold , we have a custom special available also.
intake manifold , either 38 to 40mm DCOE, multi point slide injection or single throttle body available.

price haven't got that sorted yet but are hoping to be around the $4000us for the basic kit.
we are expecting to have them ready for sale earily this year.

we have many new mini components we are developing , special cranks, rods and oil pumps"

This head reminds me of a prototype SOHC Mini head that Mini Spares Centre have the rights to, and I have laid eyes on.
It needs some more development, and may see the production light of day eventually. But I'm not holding my breath...

This is the head that mini spares sent me to redevelop, which was originally the Howley Design. Only two of the howleys were ever made, I have one and the other one has gone to god, No one know's where it went. I have all the core boxes here to redo them.
It needs alot of work to get it to work properly, I have been working on it for a "little" while.....But I am getting... have to get Ken's up and running first, but a cuppa first.....
All good things come to those in time :)
Rome wasn't built in a day, imagine if it was I that was building it!

Douglas,,, i feel for you mate, i really do,,, i too have been keen to see some results on this, but i am a patient man,,, I expect GR will show his hand when he`s ready & do have faith in his head work

only a short while ago i was asked similar questions about the Bimmer heads performance figures,,, But the std Motorbike figures were not enough for the masses to be happy

seems that some people couldn`t (or more accurately-> "Didn`t want to" ) grasp the fact that a bigger capacity engine with the same cyl head would make more power.... Maybe they thought it might have actually lost power for some reason :-)

Then there was the problem where many other people had already shown major improvements in hp & torque figures from this mod with "very-little" head work,,, & yet the masses were still all skeptical

But i`ve also learnt to understand the "Way" people type on Msg Forums, & the typical "Bites" that commonly apply with the following replys

sad ,,, but tis the way of the web-net thingy i`m affraid

However,,, i also understand GR`s position with regards to having soooo much on his plate to be able to do every thing, perfectly, all in one day,,, just to keep Every-body happy,,, sorry but as the old saying goes---> Rome wasn`t built in a day

Edit--> Oh & GR,,, if you read this,,, those American Racer tyres are crap mate,,, MY Hoosier Dirt tyres are way better on the bitumen than them. I`ll be buying some proper slicks soon, but thanks anyways,,, they were worth a try & thanks for looking after me so well on the price too ... but sadly they will be relegated as a spare set of wets or something

anyone interested in a full set of new American Racer Tyres??? Only done 4 runs up one hill-climb (2x in the wet & 2x in the dry) ,,, still have the nipples on the back ones,,, give me a bell :-) going cheap

I can understand the amount of time and effort and BIG $$$$$$$$ that GR has gone thru with his head development and the same with Matt.
What really pisses me off is that some people are very quick to throw sh*t and they have absolutely no idea of what is involved with a project like this.
I am not just talking about you Douglas but I know that both Matt and myself have had to put up with the knockers and no matter what you say they just want to bag you. Maybe GR does not want to get involved with that sort of crap.
I personally don't give a toss about airy fairy HP figures. every engine is built for a specific job and you build for your individual requirements.
I am sure that if you want to know about GR's developement just call him. If you want to find out more info then I am sure that GR would be more than happy to help.
If you just put up a posting asking politely then I am sure GR would be happy to respond.

Things seems to have gone a bit quiet on the GR/Elder head front..... strange.....

You would think that with all Graham's big talk (over a year ago now) about 160 hp/130lbs torque on a road car and that it will outperform any other head and that anyone was welcome to see it on an engine/dyno, and the all time classic - will outperform all other heads ($1,000 bet - July 2009),you would think he would have gotten around to getting some dyno figures by now........ after all how long would it take him ?

By the way - was anyone able to take up his offer and witness the head on an actual motor ?

Maybe he opened his mouth prematurely and the reality doesn't match the hype and his ego won't allow him to publish some figures and admit defeat..... until figures are out who is gonna stump over $3300 for an unproven/experimental product......I don't even think there have been figures provided on the old 8 port are there ??

Too many unanswered questions on this one........

No wonder haven't heard of anyone running one yet......... just my thoughts....would love to be proven wrong

Dear Douglas,

I'm sorry i havn't been fast enough for you but we have been doing other work behind the scenes like reprogramming the CNC for better presentation of the product.

Firstly, I stand behind everything i've said about the cylinder head. My claims will not be 'exagerrated' as you put it and has got nothing to do with ego, we do have a better product than any 7port on the market. you may quote me on that.

I have seen the other heads, valve sizes, port sizes and design and this point will make a lot of people happy - the other heads will possibly have more airflow than the elder head (like i said before, bigger isn't better).

You may have noticed that the specialists components 7port that they use my RE13 Cam which made around 123HP on their engine dyno, they then asked me for a slightly bigger cam which made 15HP more. The BMW head on the same sized engine made much the same HP as the specialist component 7port with the RE13.

My 5port road motors with an RE13 produce that sort of HP with more torque than the other 7port heads that are on the market at the moment.

I have built motors with the current arden 8-port heads for targa cars and road cars producing 120ft/lb and 150HP on 40mm webbers, with a lot of modifications to these heads you cannot bring them to the specifications of the elder heads, with the same cam these heads will not make the same HP as the elder head.

The 8-port arden that i modified for mini spares centre to copy has not yet been reproduced. If they copy it to the way that i did it, it will be a much better head than the one that they currently have.

So once again i will stick my neck out and predict that the elder head will produce the figures that i mentioned.

I have also been developing camshafts for the 5ports which we will be running in the 7ports as well, which believe it or not does take a lot of time in between all the other work i have to do and phone calls (sometimes over 30 a day) so Douglas if you really wanted to know how the head was going why didn't you just pick up the phone and ring me like other people do?

I have also spent a lot of time when i have it trying to get my appendix J car up and running. I recently got my CAMS licence back and went motor racing after 12years. The first two meetings resulted in two new lap records at wakefield and Eastern Creek. The car is turning out to be very quick due to the development i have put in on heads and cams for the A-series motor. This car will be a lot quicker when the driver gets a good tuneup.

These cams will be used in the 7port for race engines and road engines. The cam that i'll be using in the test 7port road motor will only be 282 degree duration and lift of approx 320* on the lobe.

The short motor is together, the head is all but together so the motor wont be far away from running.

The elder 8-port head that we did before made 167HP and 123ft/lb but the cams i'm using now are smaller in duration and will produce more torque and the same sort of HP than the original cam used in the 8port which will make them streen driveable and this 282 cam is not the old 282 cam we used to use before.

and to answer your comment matt, rome wastn' built in a day --> THATS BECAUSE I WAS WORKING ON IT :)
