If you need to do this on a reg basis you can make a remote unit up.
I have one consisting of batter terminals 1(-ve) for earth, one(+ve) straight to solenoid, then two(+ve) standard wire cables with switches. Toggle switch for coil and a push button for starter(solenoid). Works extremely well.
I originally built it as a bolt in wiring loom for my demolition derby cars as we strip the wiring, dash etc out of the cars. Also gives you good control to sit in the car to test gauges etc and still have the luxury to kill the motor on a whim or incase of an emergency.

Cheers

The coil will have either a + or - next to each terminal. You just need standard wire for this connector. Earth should be a thick cable (battery or jumper) attach to bodywork anywhere or even better motor itself. Make sure its bare metal. Not sure on solenoid as i havent done this to a mini but you should be able to connect power to the thick cable leading from solenoid to starter and remove it once it has started. These are general guidelines. Also if you dont know condition of vehicle have someone sit in it to make sure it doesnt jump into gear.

Hope this helps
