Can anyone tell me on how to correctly connect up the crank case oil breather on a 1275.

Mine is going to the Carb and the Tappet cover is blocked up and has a breather oil filler cap.

I do not have a oil breather on the timing chain cover.

Any help would be great thanks

hey,

on my oil breather i have a mini air filter and i took off the hose that went to my carby and my weber doesn't have the hose anymore. if u have a oil filler cap that is a breather type don't worry about a hose. if u just let the crank case breath from the air in the engine bay it will be ok. i'm not sure if it is legal in all states.

If your car was built from 74 onwards, the hose should pass from the rocker cover back up to the carby or air filter, to pass pollution ADR's. That's if ya wanna be legal.

Or ya can just use the info that mini75 suggested.

I HAD mine running from the flywheel housing to a Smiths PCV valve on the inlet manifold (as per Morris 1100S). On the road it was OK. However, I found at Wakefield Pk on the long LH turn, at 7000+ in 2nd gear, all the oil gets chucked up the breather by the drop gears and the car then gives a fair imitation of James Bond's smoke trick out the back....

Sooo, I've run it and the rocker cover hose both into a 1L plastic oil bottle with a couple of 7/8" breather holes in it. Works great. And I get hardly anything in it. I guess it don't need new rings yet!

Oh my car is a 1970, so I'm free to do whatever I want..

I have a breather fitted to the clutch case which has a K&N oil breather/filter fitted to it and the twin carbs are run to the tappet cover, also have a plastic breather oil filler cap. What sort of carby/air filter setup do you have?

When the mechanic was working on mine awhile ago (I seem to refer to this service in every single one of my posts - its probably the shame talking) he removed the smiths valve on the manifold and just directed the ventilation under the car via a long rubber hose.

After about 4 hrs of driving like that the car felt like a gas chamber complete with a pretty serious hedache for me. At heavy breaking some of the smoke would come into the cabin, and at idle the hose would smoke a fair bit. (Probably should ask graham russell about it when I'm picking up the head next week).

So I'm back to the valve and it seems to be fine.

Sounds like my car on the old motor. I always had to drive with the windows wide open (even in subzero temperatures) or else I'd aesphyxiate from all the smoke wafting into the cabin. My temporary solution was to put the rocker cover breather hose into a coke bottle. My car gained quite a reputation, having a coke bottle with a hose in the side with clouds of smoke coming out. Kinda like Davo's Mini on Fat Pizza

Thanks for the info I might try the filter or the oil bottle on the hose ai I do know it has a oil smell when I back off.

Mine used to smell oil fumey (even after motor rebuilt) when I had the PCV system running (into a Weber manifold). Since I piped it to an oil bottle instead, the smell has gone....
Very interesting, and I've no idea why.

Like mine so I will try and do that But the oil going into tha carb will also drop the octane rating on the fuel as well.
