What's the stupidest thing someone has tried to convince you of (or siad to you) regarding your mini.

and example i read on minifinity a couple of years ago..

someone had just bought another engine and was driving it home with it sitting on the back seat. They stopped at a petrol station and some guy aparently walked past, looked at it and said to his mate.. "Pfft...Stupid place for an Engine"

;)

i'm guessing there will be a few "is that a cooper?" types....

At the geelong fireworks meet this year we had some guys drive by in a commondore and shout out the window "Mini's are crap, buy a 5 litre" and then proceeded to do a big arse burnout... seemed like a waste of rubber to me but still fairly entertaining

Can’t remember who it was but I took them for a drive in Lillee and the comment was “Gee it seems like we are going so fast even though it’s only 45km/h!” to which I replied “Lucky she only goes to 90km/h then hey?”

I took my car in for a blue slip to be told by the mechanic that my fluid suspension was leaking and needed replacing......it has rubber cones...

Needless to say I didn't go back!

When people see my car, the first question is "Is it a Cooper S?" closely followed by "Did you spray it yourself?". Firstly I haven't seen many Cooper Ss painted metallic blue and done up all "boy-racer" style.....

I had a guy come up to me at work and say that Minis should never have been invented, and that they are "sickening to look at". Considering I work at a shop that supplies mainly Mini parts, that seemed a bit stupid to me.

I've also been asked whether my car has a two or a three cylinder engine..... no, it has a briggs and stratton motor you moron....

Probably loads more I can't remember, why have you got a fake bonnet strap (it's real), those 13" wheels look small (they're 10"), are Minis front wheel drive, is the engine in the back...

Cheers,
Anto.

People always ask me why I would install sliding windows, and why did I get rid of the winding ones. "It came from the factory like that in 1963, mate."

......And the disbelief that I can still buy brand new parts to fit it.

.......Or when I say my sportspack arches are off a 1997 mini....
they say "...what, the BMW one?"

.......And then when I say "I expect 100hp at the wheels, maybe a bit more"
they reply with a laugh.... until I point out the following comparison:

My mini @ 660kg with 100hp @ wheels = same power to weight ratio as a new VX HSV 5.7 litre commodore. But mine will corner faster, use less fuel, cost less than a third the price and can drive under boom gates.

hehehe... not a lot of people seem to think along the lines of Colin Chapman (ala lotus)

the latest elise "only" makes 180hp.... it still does the 0-100 in 4.9 seconds.. :)

only being 860 kg helps :)

i remember someone here posted their 12.7 kw dyno result with a comment that
"it still spins the wheels"

:)

I was doing some work on my Mini out the front of my house, and the electrician doing work next door started chatting to me. We somehow got onto the topicof when the Mini first came out. I said: "I think it was mid 1959". He said: Nah, it was mid-50's, I was still in the army." I said: "Nah mate, I'm pretty sure 1959." "No, mid-50's! I bought one in 1956".

Even if I didn't know truth, I wouldn't have believed him. His eyes were all googly and wonkey. Crazy bugger. LOL!

Oh and I had someone come up to me and say: "Why didn't you just buy a BMW Mini instead?"

"Uhhhh...." was my response.
