Cooper 998 got the 1100 type I think. S one IS best for an S though, although I use 1100 type and both my S cranks are still in one piece!

More important than the type, is the condition of the rubber (not cracked / split), either sort work OK, you can get new S outers (with bonded rubber) from Minispares. (Last time I looked!) 8)

Yeah that rubber IS all important.
Padstow P had new 1100/1275 ones a year or so back, for $75.

You can get the S ones rebonded for $100 or so, at Ross Balancers in Sydney.

I've got a Mk1 S balancer (excellent condition) was going to use that, but there isnt enough room between the snout of the crank and the metal "mount thingy" on the end of the gearbox.....

i can get my balancer on and off by jacking the passenger side of the engine up and unbolting that crap your talking about (big metal thing hanging infront of it)

i put a duplex timing chain on without removing the engine.. plenty of room once you remove the radiator

i dont understand by what you mean when you say 'let go'

did you bolt come loose and pulley fall off?
or is the pulley still on the shaft but spinning?

if 'a' .. just locktight the bolt.. you should anyway because the engine spinning will unwind the bolt.. should be a lock washer there
