Yep................ Throwout Stop and Lock Nut

Questions regarding these missing peices of the puzzle........
1. What affect does not having this do to clutch adjustment/working ability?
2. It says in the manual to set the adjustable stop to 1.524mm (0.060") from the operating lever, does anyone's settings differ from this factory setting?
2. Does anyone up here in SE QLD have one i can purchase off them??

Also, am missing the release lever spring, so if anyone has one of those as well .

Anton................ the disturbing thing is i only noticed this afternoon i removed the brake booster late yesterday............ so dunno how long it has been missing for, as i haven't really been able too see it very well before

They only stop your clutch from "overthrowing" (they are called "clutch overthrow stop nuts" from memory.....)

Not a problem if your clutch is set up even close to right.....
I never knew you needed them until i got a haynes manual (about 3 years after getting the car...) and mine had none....

Both the nuts & the spring are vital for correct clutch opperation,,,you really don`t want to see what happens if you have a problem with the clutch & these nuts aren`t fitted & set correctly,,,do the words, """Broken main bearing cap""" sound very nice????????

yes, if these nuts aren`t fitted & set correctly, all that`s needed is a bit of a problem with the clutch & it can """OVER THROW""" & when that happens, the pressure of the clutch works directly onto the crank thrusts working on the centre main bearing cap, enevitably fatigueing it & busting it off...& yes i`ve seen the results,,,Not Pretty

everyone should make sure that they have them fitted & set correctly,,,that`s what they`re there for & that`s what they`re called,,,"OVER THROW" nuts,,,should really be named """ANTI OVER THROW NUTS"""

I know of quite a few so called "mini specialists" that don`t bother to fit them claiming that they`re not needed & ,,,well,,,they may very well find out how wrong they are

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

You are right Matt, as usual, but they are the LAST thing to adjust, after you are happy with the pedal height etc.

The number of times I see them screwed too far in and people wonder why their clutch don't throw out...

BTW, real early 850 Minis never had them- not even a thread sticking out there!

im missing that thingymebob too.
ive had lots of problems with my clutch....now i think ive got it right but still have problems with it going into reveres once its been driving for some time.
allways crunchs like im not putting the clutch in all the way normal gear changing is ok just reverse....any idears about this...will get link to replace this next week as they took it of....i say if some guy made the engine with it on it should stay there...
