Hello again!

Instead of stealing the other thread on shocks I thought I'd start a separate one!

I'm putting shocks on to the front of my 68 deluxe, I have everything I need, apart from the shocks themselves. Has anyone else done this mod, and which shocks would they reccomend for this?

Cheers

Matt

My hydro has had them on for years.
I used Pedders, find them good- but any stocko Mini front shock will do. You don't need heavy damped ones or adjustables, as you are just adding a bit to the hydro's existing damping.

Thanks doc,

I thought the stockers would be the way to go. Just the standard pedders? (OK I don't even know if they make different ones)

Any other advice for this mod?

Cheers
Matt

Id go with stock Pedders or Gabriel Red Riders.
Use the brackets off a Clubbie- clean the muck out of the mounting hole threads of the car(1/4" UNF),.
Re the top arm shock bolt- you can either drill the arm out to 3/8" (they are bloody hard, though)- or, do what I did with mine and Chong's- use an 8mm x100 Unbrako cap head bolt. And then make a 3/8 x 8mm steel bush to go inside the lower shock bush. I've had no trouble with this method, it's been on the car 9 years now.

Thanks Doc,

I've got new (reco) top hydro arms, so I was going to take em to a friend who has machining tools (he owns and runs an engine reconditioners) and get him to drill them to 3/8".

Thanks again!
Matt

i've got them on mine and they work fine, but I have found that when you take some fluid out and lower it a bit that it takes a few k's for the shocks to settle in properly. Nothing I'm sure a bit of WD40 can't fix :D .

Btw. I know that you only have two valves (left - right) but the rear of mine sits really high (looks like someone gave it a 'wedgee'!!!) Does anyone have a remedy???

Hydros are designed to sit a bit higher at the back, so you can carry passengers....
But, probably your rear `helper' springs are now weak from old age- they actually hold the rear down and displace fluid to the front.

Not once you let all the fluid out and move the fuel tank....!
If buying spare helper springs pick the shortest ones out of the pile..
